hey all, I emailed a group called country roads organization. I was a little saddened to read that they were not planning onattending, but I was happy to read their next sentence. Here it is:
The answer to the MB issue has been addressed in many Forums and Chain emails among bikers. The answer is to simply give MB what they want....nothing. Unfortunately, the whole beach area will suffer as a result as most bikers I know, including our 300+ members are finding alternative destinations away from S.C beaches. Several of our members have even cancelled their family vacations (non-biker) to Myrtle Beach scheduled for later in the year.
The whole body of the Bike Event was the beach and Myrtle Beach was the heart. Some businesses are trying to salvage a few tid-bits of business and they will get a few customers, I am sure. This is being done by offering alternative routes around MB etc. But I would say MB has dealt a death blow to a lot of small businesses.
The bottom line is this....if they don't want us, we will not go. They will have to sort out their own internal problems with Murrells Inlet, North Myrtle etc.

Keith That sums it up pretty good. We are hearing this a lot. BE is putting together a list of businesses that support us and those that do not. Maybe these choices will be helpful to those coming who do not know. Interesting to note they are canceling their family vacations. I hope they are telling them why

The Helmet law when first presented stated ALL OPEN AIR VEHICLES. This would include - motorcycle, scooters, back of pickup truck and best of all GOLF CARTS. Now with that said the Mayor said that the law has to changed so that Golf Carts and not included. Rhodes stated that there is NO way I am going to wear a Helmet while using my Golf Cart. Above is my 2cent Wow does the helmet law apply to convertibles? I'd really hate to see a bunch classic car show folks being made to ride around in their rag tops sporting helmets - somehow though, it would seem fair game since a convertible fits the definition of AN OPEN AIR VEHICLE. After a quick check of the city's web page, it seems that the law only applies to motorcycles. As former President Clinton might ask...what do you mean by motorcycle? Is a trike really then a motorcycle, how about a 4 wheeler? I'm confused here on another issue. I seem to remember the helmet pitch being all about safety, so what's the difference between riding with the top down on your convertible and riding a motorcycle without a helmet? If you flip your convertible from being hit by a drunk in a truck, I'm sure there's a good chance you might suffer some sort of head injury. Sure the percentages are higher on a motorcycle, but doesn't our city council care about the safety of our visitors and residents who drive convertibles?

I haven't checked the law lately and if it is that restrictive to NOT include other open air vehicles, ie mopeds, bicycles, golf carts and so on, then the lawyers have a much better chance of getting it over turned. At least I would think that. But what the heck do I know about laws! As they said in the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, "it"s all Greek to me".

classic Still includes mopeds. Some guy was complaining his kid had to buy a helmet for him to ride his moped to go and cut grass. I told him be careful what you wish for and he might get a noise ordinance ticket as well .....

seaside: Can-Am Days are scheduled for March 14-22; MB hosts a regional cheerleader/dance team event annually in March; there's also some regional band competitions held here annually; Cruise to the coast car show; MB Marathon in Feb; Boat dealers have an annual boat show but that's over for this year, I think. Is there a convention center or something like that outside of the city of Myrtle Beach? I did find a web site for the beach ball classic I'll see if I can find organizational websites for these folks. The convention center is in the city of MB, they have a website which shows all the events coming up. Hey Seaside: How is my little SqueakyKitty doing? Did you know there is a huge convention center at SeaTrails in Sunset Beach, NC? It's right down the street from Little River on Hwy 179 - the road to Calabash.

I was beginning to worry you'd left me all alone to keep these guys straight ;D I did not know about that convention center. I'll have to check it out. The Squeakykitty is adjusting well, however, most electrical items in my home are not, cause he is chewing every cord he can find.

Morning everybody, As you know, I have been sending emails left and right to various organizations throughout the country. To date, I have received very little feedback. Well, this morning I got my first big surprise! I emailed a group last week, called the CVMA organization. They are a veterans organization throughout the country. They have chapters in almost every state. Anyhow, here's there response:
Keith, we have a chapter of the CVMA in the Myrtle Beach area, also I am a life member of ABATE so I am getting an e-mail per day on the ongoing BS in the Strand!! We go to the rally in Sept but we stay in Surfside Beach, and will not spend a dime in the city limits of MB!! I appreciate your concern, and thank you for your update!! We are already boycotting MB City limits!!! Don Fulton CVMA - Pa State Rep
The word IS getting around! We might surprise the "city" wiht this boycott.

Keith, WTG! Keep it up my friend. We keep hearing from people who think the rallies are cancelled. Gotta keep spreading the good word and seeking support from wherever we can find it. There are significant issues at play here that go well beyond local politics and any particular rally or event. The more we work at it, the more we can drive that point home.

I looke on the map to see where the heck Huntington, WVa was. Well, it's strategically situated near Columbus, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. We should concentrate the letters in those areas. I am going to start those areas today. But we have got to keep this thing in overdrive!

You are so right. The City is in Daytona telling people that the Rally is cancelled so we need to tell their customers the same thing. Lets concentrate that area only for now. Maybe I can greet them at the airport when they get off. Heck one look at me in my Cheap Sunglasses and its back on da plane boss.

You mean the city of Myrtle Beach is down there? And they are spreading more lies? I wish I knew someone who could record those statements! We could really go after them! As is lawsuits!
