Hello all, Geezer and others, I think that's a great idea to tell businesses why you are doing business with them. I too am on board with the No Dime in 09 boycott. I live in Va. and attend the HD spring rally for years with about 10-12 other riders, We have always (stayed) at the Compass Cove on 24th ave. S. MB city. This year 09 we have reservations at the Avesta in North MB... I called the reservation manager at the Compass Cove and told him about our change of plans and why, He said he's sorry to hear that, I suggested he take it up with Mayor Rhodes..... My daughter and her family live in Little River and I have a Nephew (A Harley Rider) that lives off 544, they are all supporting the boycott... Another concern, now that I'm running off at the fingers, I happened on a blog in the CharolotteObserver.com NC about Myrtle Beach doing away with the Motorcycle Rallies, From many of their post, they must be reading the new (and very misleading) MB City Web Site... also..... Thurs. a friend who lives in Sumter SC called me and said he read in their local paper the Myrtle Beach bike rallies are over, I explained what was going on.... My concern is that there may be a lot of newspapers picking up this story and the new "MB City Web Site" on the (AP) and reading the propaganda and think the rallies are gone.... I hope there's a way to get the truth out to John Q. Public....Doug

I would have thought that all the local motorcycle dealerships would have notified their sister dealerships and had the truth posted in their shops. There are a lot of dealerships up and down the eastern United States.

And it still amazes me that we are still not hearing anything from most business owners. These people are the ones with a lot at stake. I'm just a biker, if the rally goes or the rally stays, it won't make any difference in my wallet.
A lot of us have said that we will not spend any money inside the MB city limits. These people need to be trying to change our minds.

Mr. McDonald, I am a bit confused with the numbers, It says "Attendance was estimated at between 225,000 and 275,000, making for about a 10 times increase in population over the locals during the rally" My underatanding is the (City of Myrtle Beach) has a population of about 25,000 and Horry County has a total population of around 250,000 people...... Is it 10 times the pop. of Myrtle Beach City or double the pop. of the County?....Help Me ??? Hey Doug! Misinformation...again! Attendance of approximately 250k - 10 times the population of Myrtle Beach. HOWEVER, the 250k bikers are not all in Myrtle Beach. They scatter throughout the entire county. Myrtle Beach is trying to make it sound like everyone is crammed into their lil ole city.

Keith Since the Mayor has made this a national issue it is now fair game for us as well. I can think of three.
1st The American Motorcycle Association
2nd. I do not know if there is something like a National Association of Travel Agents but if there is that would be a good one as well.
3rd The people involved in The Beach Ball Classic
Geezer I am with you on this one. One can only assume the MB business community does not see value in the Rallies. It doesn't put any money in my pocket either. Come or go my stake in this is the blatant discrimination against a selected group of people and too many have have made the ultimate sacrifice for me not to stand on this one. I consider it an honor to those who gave all for our freedoms. All gave some but some gave all.

Can-Am Days are scheduled for March 14-22; MB hosts a regional cheerleader/dance team event annually in March; there's also some regional band competitions held here annually; Cruise to the coast car show; MB Marathon in Feb; Boat dealers have an annual boat show but that's over for this year, I think.

If you could find some web sites, that would be greatly appreciated. I will begin to look for those also. As of yesterday, I have sent out about 50 letters. And I'm still counting.
Ride safe and keep the rubber side down Horry County spring rally, here we come !!!!! 07 FLHTC rider Keith and Carol

Is there a convention center or something like that outside of the city of Myrtle Beach? I did find a web site for the beach ball classic

morning all,
Two things I have to inform you of. Yesterday as I was looking for a list of vendors at horrycounty.org, I saw something interesting. May be I read it wrong, so I'm not 100% sure. They are listing their permits at $700.00 for 10 ten days and $400.00 for ABBW! Like I said, did I miss something? I thought they were rasiing the rates for half the time? Helo me Mr. Wizard!!!!!!!!
Other thing is I have sent letters to numerous motorcycle organizations/clubs. I have only received one reply so far and that was from AMA. Unfortunately, it was a canned response. But now I have their email address and I will hit them again. Also, I have started to hit the major golf travel agencies. Hopefully more of these groups will see and agree with us.
One more thing, I did hit the roughnecks. They have not responded yet.
I'll keep everybody posted
Ride safe and keep the rubber side down see you all at the "horry county spring rally 09" 07 FLHTC rider Keith and Carol
P.S. Post those first tickets for the helmets here when you get them

Keith & Carol Thank you so much for all you do. Great job. I am going to put a signed copy of my ticket on E-Bay if I get one. The original I will give to my son. I want him to know freedom isn't free and sometimes you have to stand. For me this is one of those times.
