Well, it looks like Horry County has joined the "Not A Dime In '09" campaign. They did cut the number of vendor permits but they also moved most of them away from the coast. This in itself, will keep people (and their money) out of the city limits of MB.

Also, I have a question that someone here might be able to answer. We know that there will be a specific number of vendor permits that will be issued. Who determines the size of the vendor's space, the property owner or the county?
Many years ago, I was a vendor at some events, not motorcycle related. The local area got greedy and decided to triple the vendor permit fee. A lot of us got together in small groups and one person would buy a permit and the rest of us would "work" for him. Everyone kept their merchandise and money seperate from each other and at the end of the event, we totaled up our sales and paid the sales taxes collected to the permit buyer for him to turn in.
The next year, the vendor permit fees were reduced to the original amount. From then on, everyone bought their own permit.

Geezer This is my read on the meeting. Last year there were 394 vendor permits. In the ordinances last night the requirement was that you needed 35 continuous acres to have vendors. That provision was removed there by opening the available vendors to everyone not just two places.
Under the new ordinances there will be 25 vendors south, 50 vendors middle, and 75 vendors north on 17. There will be 75 vendors south and 75 vendors north in between 17 and the ICW. There will be 100 vendors west of the Waccamaw river.
In essence the County raised the number of vendors from last year, dropped the fees, expanded the zones and spread them out more. When compared to what the City response was I view this as a good deal and a starting point

You know something bird, who's in the background pulling the strings? It seems like they were decided and then had a second vote.
Was the first vote on the original changes they made? I don't know. If that is so, then we did come out ahead in this, so far.

I bet he is after Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce said the ongoing talks with Myrtle Beach about ending Bikefest are a conspiracy that she intends to end. link: www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/local/story/787931.html

Classic, I agree. I think Mayor Rhodes thought he had this one in the bag. The bikers will still be here in May and his city won't be getting revenue from it. It looks like he got what he asked for.

Go to www.myrtlebeachonline.com and look for the video of Mayor Pierce at Tuesday's cancelled meeting in Atlantic Beach. They keep moving it around but you'll find it. She says that she does not agree with Mayor Rhodes actions towards the rallies. She also said he and MB has no business trying to run and change Atlantic Beach. It's worth watching if you can find it.

Once again, the media has reported this as a bad thing for the Rally's. After sifting through the mumbo-jumbo it looks like it truly is a victory for the vendors. More permits, less costly, longer days (than originally planned) and they're out of the city. PLUS... When the Church of the HungMunga's has it's annual "Deliverence Festival" every year, they too are held under the same restrictions as during Bike Week. They must pay the "gathering fees" just like the bars do. The County's gonna' make a BOATLOAD of money next year from that Marathon because the fee is based on the number of people expected at the event.

I finally had time to think about all of the changes made by the county. I for one feel that we did win this round. It will be spread out more giving us the time to ride more and not be stuck in traffic. That is what Ocean City did last year and it worked very nicely for them.
I also believe now that the county was not going to follow the cities lead and cut off the one hand that does feed them. The county realized that during this time of our economy they could not justify reducing the amount of income generated by the spring rally. As someone posted at the sun news, it sounds like the county has joined the "not a dime in 09" campaign. Sorry about the cities luck, NOT!

The many festivals and MB are the loosers here. They will now be paying fees and being restricted and we get more vendors in more zones with less fees. We are used to paying them but others are not. Welcome to my world.. Hee Hee. Not A Dime IN 09.. ;D

Help me understand, are these vendor permits for a particular time or are they just for the bike rally? If there are only X number of vendor permits available and all are sold, what happens to the Blue Crab Festival that happens at the same time as the bike rally?
