Just got back from the Freedom Ride so I thought I would post my view. First no one got hurt as it was not the best day for riding. Me and Dilligaf are soaked to the bone.
At last count 49 tickets were issued. In court on Tuesday the City Attorney stated when asked by the Judge about getting multiple tickets that people would be allowed to go on their merry way. That was not the case today. People were not allowed back on their bikes until helmets were brought to them. I know of no bikes impounded today and did not see any sound measurement. The Police while out in force ( I saw more today then at Bike Week) were polite and simply doing what their boss instructed them to do.
As far as I know all tickets were scheduled for April 21st so there is an outside chance to get a ruling before Bike Week. Along most of the route taken were people on the side of the road cheering the Bikers on as we approached the City. It was great from this Bikers Standpoint to see so many out in the rain with families taking time out from their free time to support us. At a stop light an older gentleman rolled his window down and told the ones in my group what he thought of MB. The short version is FMB. It was a moving experience and one I am Honored to have taken part in.
As for me it will be the last time my front tire hits the streets of MB. As far as I am concerned if you have reservations in the City for Bike Week I would suggest you look at options outside the City for a more enjoyable Bike Week and to support our cause.
Past that there were a lot of news coverage and we will see what the local journalist have to say. To all on the ride thank you for standing for FREEDOM.
