The good news is, there is an online database of homicides in Myrtle Beach Area available at: www.thesunnews.com/1111/story/791637.htmlThe bad news is, you have so many homicides you need an online database to keep track of them all. Welcome to the family Friendly Paradise. I wonder if MB Chamber includes this in their welcome package to visitors? Ditto for fatal auto accidents... www.thesunnews.com/1111/story/788853.html

This is hardly worth getting excited over: Horry County = 7 homicides this year. LA County - 366 homicides this year. Ghost, 1. I think your numbers are a bit off? There are 114 murders YTD in LA County, not 366. Source: www.lacountymurders.com/pyear_stats.cfm2. The population of LA County is 9,862,049, and the population of Horry County is 257,380 (US Census) 3. That means that the murder rate in LA County is 1.15 per 100,000, while in Horry County it is 2.72 per 100,000. If you think Horry County having more than double the murder rate of drug war gang ridden illegal immigrant saturated LA County is a yawner, well, you are entitled to that opinion I suppose. As to the ACC pulling out, I'm with ya. Have a story on that primed to go up on the front page of the website, just waiting to resolve some details on another story that is going up with it. I suspect the NAACP did not fail to notice how MB treated Atlantic Beach Bikefest, and in particular how they tried to strong arm AB into dropping the rally. They SAY it is about the flag, but I bet there is more to it than that. The flag was there when they inked the original deal, and that has not changed. Obviously something else did.

Pat, I can't find the website where I got my number from. I should have pasted it into my post from last night. The problem with your 2nd point is it doesn't take into account that the grand strand has a transit population. According to the MBCC, 15.2 million tourists visit the area each year. www.myrtlebeachareachamber.com/research/data_and_statistics.htmlThat doesn't mean there isn't a lot of crime here. Just that the numbers off of CityRating.com won't project an accurate crime rate. It would be interesting if the sun news did some research and broke down the crime for us. What areas is seeing the most crime, what income are they, are they local, how many are repeat offenders, etc... And no one visits LA? You're right, it is hard to ever get a really comparable comparison, but the Sun News did report last fall that the overwhelming majority of crime committed in Horry Co is local, not imported via tourists. We had it up on the website back then, and I'd bet that of the crimes committed by tourists, most of that is petty non-violent stuff. Moreover, the big tourist rush for the area is just now starting, the stats we have been discussing have been thru June only (eg- off season).
