We said in the beginning all here will somehow be affected by the arbitrary, capricious, and in some cases Un Constitutional laws designed to attack some tourists. If the City can charge a promoter a 50 thousand dollar fine for what it perceives as a outside cost to the City then the outside communities should sue the City for the effects it has on others. It has now been well documented as this article states and is more then just monetary loss. Had the City received the normal tourists dollars they wouldn't be charging the Carolina Forest residents and others for their libraries. This is just the tip of the iceberg. State revenues will be hit as well and the residents are where they will get the money.

I have a few problems with the article.
First, the City of Myrtle Beach has offered to annex in Carolina Forest. If you choose not to join the city, don't go around and cry about having to pay for parking, gym access and library costs within the city limits. Sorry, you can't have your cake and eat it too.
Police checkpoints are published in the Sun News and Carolina Forest Chronicle. 30 seconds on a website would probably save you a lot of heartache. If i see an upcoming checkpoint coming up I either a) find an alternative route or b) give myself ample time to get to where i am going. Being lazy does not make you a victim.
If the tourism tax is such a hassle for the author, then don't shop in the city. But keep in mind that the tourism tax, or at least part of it, goes to national advertising for the area. This is money raised by the City of Myrtle Beach but benefits the entire grand strand. If the city didn't aggressively advertise the area, Restaurant Row, Marsh Walk, Freestyle Park, Golf Courses, Entertainment (all located outside of the city limits) would be financially hurt.

Ghost Good to hear from you and yes all swords cut both ways. Not sure what was in the annex deal but I guess the people in CF didn't see the value in it.
I remember the original article and the miles of stopped traffic. A lot of the people in that line up were from out of town including the man that missed his flight. Tourists just trying to get into MB the only way they know how. How are we to expect them to have that information ? I cannot think of a time that I called a City I was visiting to find out if the City would be setting up a roadblock preventing me from reaching my destination. While I understand your other points I do not on this one. Knowing that area it is the only bridge going over the inter coastal so I am not sure what road anyone could have taken. I stayed home by the pool because I felt it would be a cluster. Feel bad for those who for whatever reason got caught up in it either for work or pleasure.

I believe tha the CF people have a strong and valid point. What happens along the Grand Strand should not be governed by a very small entity. Now, if CF could muster the support from other neighboring towns and cities and voice to Myrtle Beach that they don't agree, perhaps some sense could be talked into them and a resolution could be close at hand. It's unfortunate that that may never happen!
