You guys are a bit confused. The City does not go either way on this. They bury their collective head's in the sand and ignore it completely. And here I thought their heads were buried somewhere else...

You guys are a bit confused. The City does not go either way on this. They bury their collective head's in the sand and ignore it completely. By accepting this without any city BS just shows their predujice towards bikers. Fine if they want to look the other way on this. Just don't take all of their odjections out on the bikers like they have already done. i personally think they are afraid to attack or give flack to any other group right now because the biker issue has grown far larger than they ever expected and the negative publicity is coming home to haunt them. The biggest hting to keep eye on right now is comparing enforcement of ordinances and traffic safety checkpoints during events to solidify the issue of discrimination against bikers which has hurt many small businesses in the city. Just my opinion and we all know about opinions.

Almost missed my point but got distracted. The whole issue has become a civil rights issue and the city passed all these new ordinances targeting bikers yet saying they would be enforced equally year round, which they havent done. By neglecting to enforce them equally for everyone like they have already done then the civil rights thing is confirmed. They have been discriminatory to a specific group IE US BIKERS. THAT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL. All should have the right to visit and be treated equal! Once again just my opinion and we all know opinions stink

Interesting that they quoted the Pride news release almost verbatim EXCEPT that they deleted the sentence in the press release that noted that Pride was especially important for gay children. Un-News Article: "Organizers said Pride gives people who live in small towns without visible gay populations to be around people like themselves, and Pride-goers can serve as support for people who have been victims of anti-gay discrimination." Pride Press Release: "While Pride is primarily to increase visibility, it provides a safe environment to be oneself. Pride is also an opportunity for those who live in small towns without a visible gay population to be around people like themselves, and Pride-goers can serve as a support group for those who have been victims of anti-gay discrimination. It is particularly important for gay children who have suffered from anti-gay sentiment either at home or at school, or both." Now, that was NOT an accident. Why do you suppose that is? As I said before, I'm not interested in attacking them, but the facts are the facts. A perfect example how the press censors the news in subtle ways that can significantly impact public perception.

Wanna bet the thugs are looking forward to this weekend just as much as the gay's??? I can hear it now------ Honey where are the good stockings that fit over my head? Business is going to be booming this weekend!!!!

As I recall, last year there was no comment of any type from City officials concerning this event. They don't promote it nor do they chastize it. They merely turn cheek and pretend as if it's not even happening. From what I understand this event draws a rather large number of people to various locations across the City. You would think that officials would voice some concern over crowd control, public safety, and sanitation. If this were a sporting event of some sort, the city would be promoting it daily and calling in the troops to make certain the event ran smoothly. This proves without a doubt that certain groups of tourists in Myrtle Beach are looked upon differently than others. Perhaps the city is apprehensive to do battle with Gay Rights groups because they stereotype them as harmless. Perhaps the machine that is Gay Rights is much larger than anything Lumpy Ellenburg would care to deal with. The Media will not touch it. Oh, of course, they'll do a few fluff articles but never will they approach the selective tourism plateau. It all boils down to blatant favoritism and the city's inability to properly maintain a level playing field for ALL visitors. Check the books...I believe that's illegal?

I am going to make a whole-hearted effort to at least drive by and take a few photos and to see the crowds. I'm curious how crowd control and security is being handled.
