Letter From Trisha Cunningham....HELP
I cannot tell you how disgusted I am about the bigotry, irresponsibility, and over oppressive & neglectful rule to allow the actions which affect millions in the hands of 7 people. 7 people who listened to a select few and took it upon themselves to implement rules without research of the economic impact that would take place. Having no immediate plan to help businesses survive their actions was worse than a Bernie Maddoff scheme. Unlike most or sharing the same position of a few (sans the hundreds of business owners who were told to move or leave, or they didn't count in their decision who did try to explain their position and ask for a compromise- THEY WERE TOLD THEIR WAS NONE!).
These leaders still remain steadfast to their decisions and believe it our not, no matter how pompass I may feel they are after seeing the devastation left behind they created, you have to wonder about a few things. Do they truly believe in the heart of hearts they made the right decisions- they knew they were going to take flack over all of this? Have the City Council and Mayor been promised financial incentives for their rulings? Why are they against Single Member Districts that would allow for equal representation throughout the entire city? Questions to ponder...
I have spent hours and sometimes days on end speaking with our city leaders ,state & national politicians, area residents, business owners, employees -on all sides, tourists, children, local & national organizations designed to help protect human rights, and personally have my own views and impacts. What I want others to know is this is NOT only about Bike Week. As I have stated over and over again, this is not a 1 issue fight. The local city council has made a debauchery of our city, destroyed the reputation of our town, over taxed us, frivolously used our money for their own gain (they gave themselves raises during an economic disaster), hired a firm using our money without a vote or competition, have shown selective tourism, and would you like me to tell you how I really feel?
Now, in a predominately recession proof environment- a tourist town- we have businesses closing, homes foreclosing, employees deciding between food and a light bill. Children on the street because they've been evicted after Mom/Dad went home without the money they normally make during those weeks in May. Our crime rate is soaring, homelessness is over riding our city parks, woods, and business parking lots. The city has blamed the economy. The "bikers" for boycotting the city. They are taking none of the blame.
The City's stance is this: Get rid of one group of people and others will come... Open your eyes guys and please educate me about these decisions you have made. Let me see if I get this right...
1. You decide after 1"last" incident ( a terrible and horrific tragedy where a young resident and student was shot and killed by another area resident after an altercation in a residential parking lot. Neither were riding a bike) that bike weeks are gone. This was introduced as "Enough is enough" by City Councilman Mike Chestnut, during a meeting after the final week of Atlantic Bike Week, and who remains the only member who lives south of 57th Ave North in Myrtle Beach. Why was it this indecent when I have been told over and over again that this was in the works for 10 years? My husband was hit and killed as a pedestrian by a motorcycle during Harley Bike week...did he not count?
2. You then proceed to end the Bike weeks which the City of Myrtle Beach has never officially hosted.
3. You impose a 3 mil increase on property taxes to raise a million dollars and fund a campaign to end the Bike Weeks.
4. During this time the City Council give themselves a pay raise.
5. Meeting after meeting, area residents and businesses owners who expressed concern and compromises to the City's new intentions were told to leave, move, or their were no compromises to be made. Last but not least the meeting would be canceled early!
6. 15 new ordinances were imposed- 1 superseding a State Law, 1 that could not be enforced due to the City's equipment not being in compliance, one that is continuously serving for lawsuits of selective prosecution.
7. The City Council then takes the money from the tax increase and uses it for radio ads to tell tourists they are not welcome.
8. Another sales increase is imposed to fund the Chamber of Commerce's campaign to bring tourists back to the tune of $15,000 without a vote by the people or a competition ruling.
9. The tax is billed as an "Ad tax" explaining to the residents of Myrtle Beach that the "Tourists" will be the one's paying for it but it does not go into affect until August and is this not one more reason a tourist would not want to come back?
10. Now our city leaders have been honored during a community event where everyone received and invitation, but when some showed to enjoy the festivities, they were told no, to their right, during a private party and not a community event for which it was billed! Now that is discrimination. I was there to thank each and everyone of the City Councilman/woman and the Mayor for EVERYTHING they have done for our City and the Community. But was turned away because I was wearing a HELP (Help Eliminate Lousy Politicians)shirt. I wonder why, if they feel they are doing a super job, my shirt was inappropriate? Or should I have been thanking all of the people supporting the Casinos coming to our town? When Mayor Rhodes said he wanted to clean up our town, he meant clean out the town...
The following is from TeaParty.org:
We are you. The everyday person who works hard and tries to do what is right. We know that things are not quite right. Yet, it seems that no matter which political party or slogan you listen to, it's more of the same blame and claim. Blame the other and claim you're the solution. We are tired of the hatred. We have more in common than in differences. We are your brothers and sisters. It doesn't matter what ideological perspective you have. If you hate your brother, this is not the party for you!
We are tired of the smoke and mirrors that politicians use to get elected all the while they are fleecing our pocketbooks. We need our pocketbooks to remain intact, so that we can pursue: "Life, Liberty and Happiness", our Constitutional/Divine Right, which was paid for by those who died, those who served and those who still serve. Freedom isn't Free.
It is for Freedom alone that we will unite, even though we are all different, because we have a common bond called "The American Spirit". We are not an apparition (ghost), but we have been standing in the shadows waiting for our leaders to do the right thing, which apparently they are not willing to do yet. Our movement will not go away, because we have discovered that the candidates we seek are not those who are Power hungry, but rather those more like us - a person of good values and substance.
We don't need a Party Candidate platform that resembles that of a play book, but rather we desire those like ourselves who have been refined through adversity and hardship. It is through these life experiences we realize our walk through this life is not confined to our own race, dialect, sex, handicaps, intellect, religion, creed, sexual orientation or nationality; we are more alike than different. These moral values and experiences are what we stand for and represent.
Our Mindset: When someone attempts to exclude us, they strengthen our resolve. When someone shows hatred for our fellowmen we become stronger. When someone uses or condones, a double standard, then again our strength grows. We are obligated to fulfill the promises set forth by our Founding Fathers, that of protecting and perfecting the Constitution of the United States which was given to us through Divine Grace.
It is clear that World Leaders have a thirst for Power, not moral values, and this insatiable quest for power has tainted the perspective of our entire planet. It has once been said, "Absolute Power, Corrupts Absolutely" (Lord Acton, 1887). However, strong Values and Principles represent Greatness and many find that in their Creator. Let us combine our thoughts to act as one to discover the Cure for the maladies that plague us.

There is a whole lot of truth in this statement. But I would like to add one more.
I stated a long time ago that there were 2 main reasons that I got involvef in this fight. First, if a city, town, municipality, located anywhere within this great country of ours, write their own laws that supersede the laws of the state they are located in, then God help us! We will be a nation of Anarchy! There will be so much civil unrest, like Iraq is experiencing now. All factions will be fighting one another to gain superoirity over the other. We, the citizens of this nation, would be reduced to animals fighting for our lives.
!!!!!!! THAT IS THE #1 REASON THAT I JOINED THIS FIGHT !!!!!!
Now the second reason. I sure as he!! don't want some idiotic baffoon in charge when we retire there in a few years making up these stupid laws chasing away the bread and butter of the area!
Now this is truly my .02 cents worth.

What the clowns did is easy to see. They figure that we will do what we want. Then we will react to what we did wrong to try and make it look right. Even thought it will still be wrong.
One more to add - Rhodes new motto
GIVE ME THE MONEY AND I WILL SCREW OVER WHOEVER YOU WANT. YOU SEE I CAN GET AWAY WITH IT!

Starting hopefully in September the Helmet case will be heard in Supreme Court before the Fall Rally, but if not maybe in October. If none of that happens we'll knock them off their perch in November! ;D

If none of that happens we'll knock them off their perch in November! ;D I really hope it gets heard before they get out so they are the ones feeling the sting.. If it happens after october and they get a good mayor in there it might not be anything to hear the new guy or gal might do away with them all before it gets to court.... Too bad ya'll cant make the current council have to pay the fines and settlement out of their own pocket since it was their ideas instead of out of the taxpayers.....

"...Too bad ya'll cant make the current council have to pay the fines and settlement out of their own pocket since it was their ideas instead of out of the taxpayers..... I'm researching something now as far as an additional legal maneuver that would really get council and the mayor's heads spinning if the helmet law gets defeated by the Supreme Court. More to follow if/when the time comes...
