I found this and it didn't seem that the business community was to concerned about the bikers last July just as we said. We didn't get any support from them then and are we going to get any support from them now? I heard that their businesses come first! Look at the Questionair from Last June 17th to July 14th 2008. www.myrtlebeachareachamber.com/member/docs/2008BikeRallyResults.pdf

Look at the Questionair from Last June 17th to July 14th 2008. www.myrtlebeachareachamber.com/member/docs/2008BikeRallyResults.pdfDid you happen to notice that 65% of MB COC businesses think that the STATE should enact a helmet law (forget about just the city). Now, the chamber is supposed to be promoting business for MB and it's members. How is a STATE helmet law in any way related to their purpose? How is it a question they should legitimately be polling their membership on? Seems to me that the COC is getting involved in political advocacy, an activity that is strictly prohibited by their 501(c)(6) status. I wonder what the IRS would think of that? Are there any lawyers in the house who would care to comment? I wonder how ABATE/PGR/ALR/etc feels to know that the MB Chamber of Commerce is agitating (or planning to) for a statewide helmet law. As to the rest of the questionaire, it is a mixed bag, although it does seem that a majority of the businesses polled were not in favor of eliminating the rallies. Apparently the chamber acted at variance with it's own membership. Not surprising, since they get most of their money from government.

Every time I see the results of that questionaire, I shake my head in disbelief and wonder what the Chamber of Commerce said to its members to garner those results. When you're a dues paying member of an organization and the leaders steer you in a certain direction it's natural to follow. At Wednesdays picnic I'll be sure to ask as many business owners as I can how they currently feel about the answers they put on that paper. I bet they'll have a different opinion now?

Their numbers no way meet what sun news polls said or if you go around city and ask people about bike week they mostly state that even though it is alot of people right now the $$$ means more and is needed even more now ... City and Commerce should have to pay all business who lost money difference due to them killing tourist industry they could submit letter of need and city got to pay ...
