Here's some interesting reading material. I ran across this article in the Myrtle Beach Herald Newspaper this weekend, "Earmarks tie up tourism money" Many locals believe the money for tourism promotion already exists, and we've often wondered just where does all of the money the City collects from the accommodations tax and those hospitality fees actually go? Never fear, seems the State Government has set up a committee to oversee how those dollars are being spent. The Tourism Expenditure Review Committee, or TERC, is The State Committee that monitors Accommodations Tax reporting. You might hear the term A-Tax, being bounced around by MBCC or the Chamber. The "A-Tax" is the Accommodations Tax. Just like us common folk who don't seem to like Big Brother telling us what to do, turns out the City of Myrtle Beach ain't none too happy about some Big Brother Committee telling them what they can and cannot do with "their money". (That was an actual quote from the TERC's meeting minutes, I kid you NOT). The article is long, but there's some interesting topics in this one. For example: How Myrtle Beach Spends It's Money; Funding System Under Review; and TERC Investigating. www.myrtlebeachherald.com/default.asp?sourceid=&smenu=1&twindow=&mad=&sdetail=11185&wpage=1&skeyword=&sidate=&ccat=&ccatm=&restate=&restatus=&reoption=&retype=&repmin=&repmax=&rebed=&rebath=&subname=&pform=&sc=1072&hn=myrtlebeachherald&he=.com

Great post seaside. I need to spend some time with this one. I smell a rat..... Bird, there's rats, moldy cheese, snakes and black holes! You're a good friend and I don't want you gone forever!!! Sorry if this steps on any toes, but it's a public record. Here's the link to TERC's website. There you'll find the actual minutes for their meetings. Read it for yourself and then decide. www.atax.sc.gov/index.htmlAs for the rats, mice and cheese out there..... I simply and humbly say.......The truth's welcome in heaven and that's good enough for me. Oh yeah and a really big ~~~~MEOW~~~~ to all of those rats and mice

So if you read the first part of the minutes of the March meeting it already suggests impropriety on the part of Myrtle Beach. Sweet... Think the Un-News will send someone to investigate? LOL!

I agree the news should be on it, but it seems the original story was only covered by The Herald. Ummm, lessee... Local government improperly mixes taxpayer dedicated funds with general revenues in such a way that no one can figure out how the money was spent and if it was improperly diverted to other purposes. The reason the Herald doesn't cover it is simple. What's new about that?
