A few random thoughts I've had about the past-weekend City of Myrtle Beach Military Appreciation Days; these are the ones I can relay right now off the top of my head:
- The acronym for this event = M.A.D. 'Nuff said…
- More military-affiliated people attended - PLUS more military-affiliated people DID NOT attend - the SPRING HARLEY RALLY than the City of Myrtle Beach will EVER get for their "Military Appreciation Days" event.
- Today’s "photo of the day" on the online version of the Sun News features a kid putting his fingers in his ears because a Military Appreciation days video presentation was TOO LOUD.

Wait - wasn't "too loud" one of the most-claimed "justifications" to drive away the so-called "bike weeks"?
- Another photo in the montage contains the honest statement of "a small crowd attended one of the events that is supposed to replace the lost income from bike weeks in Myrtle Beach".

- A group of local Harley riders, about 5 years ago, suggested such a multi-day event - one that was indeed a more traditional Memorial Day weekend celebration that included static displays, various activities, and a parade down MB Ocean Boulevard - to various city officials, at a "biker forum" conducted at the MB Convention center. Said officials responded at the time that they could not do such an event because (as best as could be recalled as a quote) "the NAACP would eat us alive".
- It looks like the most constructive result of the Military Appreciation Days was that it provided close proximity to various City of Myrtle Beach officials for bikers and others who were not satisfied with their actions - and who wanted to confront those city officials.
- The City of Myrtle Beach claims that this event will be held ON Memorial Day weekend NEXT year. The golden question: "If the City of Myrtle Beach was SERIOUS about both driving out the Atlantic Beach BikeFest/FreakNik effects on the city AND actually showing 'appreciation' to the military, WHY didn't they hold THIS year's event on the actual Memorial Day weekend?"
Of course - we ALL know the answer to that last one.
