The photos of Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach shows no traffic on the street and almost no people on the sidewalks. Mid-January has more traffic and people than this. I hope that business owners have learned from this and will speak up and be heard. Here is a Sun News photo that was taken at 9:45 Saturday night. I guess the families that replaced the bikers had already gone to bed for the night. I talked to a few people that had ridden on Ocean Blvd and they said that it was scary, no people at hotels, restaurant parking lots empty, no one on the streets. But still, they had the one way traffic pattern. One guy told me that there were 5 police officers there and they were laughing and cutting up about following the traffic cones. I guess they were bored. And the funny thing, all week long people would go out of their way to tell us to stay out of Myrtle Beach and how to go around the city. We even had people telling us about the traffic checks and how to avoid them. We had breakfast at a place in Conway and our waitress told us not to go into Myrtle Beach without a helmet or we would get a ticket. She said that some people had already gotten tickets but they were being challenged in court. She said that the best thing to do was stay away from Myrtle Beach. Meanwhile, the south end of the Strand was booming. I got to hang out with family and friends from out of town and I got to meet and make some new friends. I got to meet Freebird and his lovely wife and I also got to meet Jeff. Me and my family/friends made it back home safe and sound every night, so it was a very good week for me. How about you guys? Any stories to tell?

I had much the same experience. two different people in Walmart parking lot Sunday morning warned me about the city and to steer clear of MB. Got to spend Sunday afternoon with Freebird and Victoria, and most of Monday with Freebird. Victoria, Huggy and Kim. Good times with great people. Had a great time. Road from south to north and back using some backroads that i had never travelled. Had people in cars back off and give me room when I applied turn signal to change lanes several times. Felt nothing but feeling of welcome from the locals

Well, let me just tell you what Jeff learned from this trip....I have lead a sheltered life while at Myrtle Beach in the past....but never again, and I have been calling ALL my friends and telling them of all the new eateries I found and nice little shops I found, and all the nice people I met and All of this was in N Myrtle (and they have a cute blonde cop there, and she was very nice) Murrells Inlet, Little River, Shallotte, NC and Cherry Grove. I even met an ole Geezer and a Bird there at Tar Baby's. I had a wonderful time and didn't spend a dime in MB and never will again. I would think that all those folks at Broadway will be looking at their leases and thinking we better get out of this city, especially after no biker money was spent there and now they will have to deal with the poor economy the rest of the summer. But you know....hummmmmm what a nice place down in Murrells Inlet for a margaritaville or up on little river....no doubt you could get wasted away. Anyway BUCK I hate I missed you and the rest of the bloggers but maybe next time...and what a small world to find Geezer is from right here in my backyard. Ride safe and take care....and just wait till the next group arrives...we'll all get angel wings.

IT WAS NICE TO MEET YOU ALL AND KIM AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AGAIN. ANYONE SEE THE MAYOR ON TV SAYING THE BIKERS SHOULD LOOK IN THE MIRROR FOR NOT SPENDING ANY MONEY INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS AND BUSINESSES SUFFERING FROM IT?

Adwife and i just got in a few hours ago. We enjoyed Bike Week and met a lot of good people. And are the businesses Whining and crying about not making money. We rode down Ocean Blvd. We saw signs saying we love Bikers and there room rates were from $29.00 to $45.00 a night. Where were they last year when these laws were being put into place? I did not go around MB, I rode thru it when I needed to. Boy did the Not A dime in 09 word get out. To the north and south of MB It was booming. We had a Blast. We went to the Dog House South and meet Don, and watched the MB police set up in Thorny's parking lot to scope out Bikers leaving his Bar. That was very interesting. I spoke to about 10 MB residents they seem to like us. I also talked to several non-bikering tourist., One told me They like to come down From Mass. during bike week, every year. They even like bike week. hummmm Go figure

Friday Traffic Jams due to MBPD Check Points on Hwy 501...... I could be wrong, but I don't think this Hotel Owner is very happy... Per the Sun News - Jack Rabon, an owner of the family owned Chesterfield Inn on Ocean Blvd. and 7th Ave. N., walks to his sisters van in front of his hotel Sunday afternoon. "City Council has betrayed us," said Rabon. The Chesterfield Inn, which has been at 100% occupancy during past bike rallies only had around 12 out of 212 rooms full a night at a discounted rate this year.Look what someone left on the beach, dang bikers...LMAO! (Range made me do it)

I had a blast outside of the city, and really enjoyed myself at all of the usual hot spots. I did ride through the city twice, once south, once north. On my northbound leg, there were signs saying that Ocean Blvd. was closed! I guess that they couldn't handle all of the non-traffic and decided to artificially generate traffic on 17. I saw very few bikes getting pulled over, but saw many cages getting the red-and-blue light treatment. I have started my planning for next year already!

We had a great time, didn't stay at our own timeshare in the city, but paid to stay at Myrtle Beach Resort (south of the city). Saw a bunch of old friends and met some great new ones. Great rides, took alot of backroads, met silvershadow at The New Beaver, hung out there, the original Beaver, Dead Dog, HB Spokes, Bought our Not a Dime shirts and H.E.L.P. shirts. I feel bad for some of the businesses in the city (The Barrel) they will be missed.
As for the PoPo, I would say for every bike I saw pulled over there were at least 10 cages pulled.
Did see that Wayne Gray's Farmer's Gallery had a big WELCOME BIKERS BANNER and a Dyno tuner and made sure we told everyone not to go.

Thank you to all who came down and supported the local two wheeled enthusiasts. I had a most wonderfull time meeting and riding with everyone. People were spread out from Pawleys Island to Shalotte NC but like the picture shows. The Mayor and City Council asked us to stay out and we did. We were told the residents didn't want us. We said no problem and went where we were asked to go or come. Not A Dime In 09 means just that. I too feel the City did me a favor as I discovered some neat back roads and diners and fish shacks, Tar Baby's and some local flavor places all up and down the Grand Strand. Just not in MB .
What anyone does from here is a personal choice but I didn't loose anything in MB , I do not miss it, and highly doubt I will spend a dime there ever.

Quick question - Anybody know when or where the County's after-action report will be available? I read last year's some time ago and would love to compare the two.

I am not sure how they will do things this year but last years report, all 59 pages of it is still available at www.horrycounty.org/hot_topics/08SprAfterActionRpt.pdfI printed all 59 pages for later use when they make it magically disappear. When they complete this years after-action report, it SHOULD be found at Horry counties very own website. www.horrycounty.org/hcgPortal.aspOnce there scroll down a little, looking to the left for BIKE WEEK and the report SHOULD be posted under there, eventually. Right now last years is still available there.

The topic here is "Photos Don't Lie"...WELL, neither does video so I thought I would post this link to a DRUNK girl claiming to be the mayors daughter. LOL I can't stop laughing. Want to laugh your self silly for the next four minutes? Then go view this youtube video a fellow biker from the other rally just sent me. Whether the girl in the video is really the mayors daughter as she claims, his step daughter or his "love child" (we know what they say about politicians and their dirty little secrets) or someone that thought throwing the mayors name around was a good idea I personally don't care. (but I am very curious lol)...but the video gives a look into Myrtle's "children" and their we're above the law behavior. And they say bikers are their problem. ROFLMAO www.youtube.com/watch?v=suG-sXPaJT0Warning it has some very unlady like language in it so have the volume lowered if your pc can be overheard by children or employers. ;-)

I surely hope the Gray Hairs (oops! that could be me, I resemble that remark) see hear about this one. If this is the mayor's daughter, it would appear that our "wholesome" mayor has raised a healthy little sailor here in our fine city. Maybe that's why he's so hellbent on changing Myrtle Beach's image. Fact is, if this is his daughter, he might want to clean up his own backyard before meddling with everyone else's.
