Looks like the local media is doing everything possible to give people the impression that Bike Week has fizzled. They waste ink writing about how nothing's going on yet post all sorts of pics like they're promoting? They just won't admit that the economy will play a role in the lesser numbers this year and still think that this is good for the area. Go figure...

They can say whatever they want but there were a ton of bikes coming in on 501 as I was going to Darlington. I hope MB turns into a Ghost Town and just blows away. Not A Dime In 09 and maybe FOREVER...

It also appears that the Take Back May idiots are hard at work trying to assist the city's police in enforcing the new laws.
Seems some of them have been going into the local bars and ordering drinks after closing hours. When the drinks are served, they call the police to file a complaint against the bar for serving drinks after their normal closing hours.
They also seem to be upset that cops are passing bikers who are not wearing helmets! Apparently the Take Back May crowd doesn't realize that sometimes the cops have IMPORTANT calls to take.
My favorite quote of the day.....
"OMG! A PACK OF BIKERS ARE HEADED NORTH ON KINGS HWY NOT WEARING HELMETS AND THE POLICE JUST DROVE RIGHT BY THEM, SOMEBODY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING...."
ROTFLMAO! ;D

They also deliver their live reports about how there are not many bikes in town. They even go so far as showing an empty parking lot as proof of the absence of bikes. However, I did find it really hard to hear what the reporter was saying last night due to the invisible bikes that kept driving by him. Perhaps he didn't see them either.....but I think he heard them because his face turned red ;D

We need to do the same things at the Golf Courses and turn the Golfers in for all the things they do. Anytime you see a golfer drinking call the cops and get liscense plates and follow them and keep calling the cops until they get arrested.

... They waste ink writing about how nothing's going on yet post all sorts of pics like they're promoting?... When they post "about how nothing's going on" - that's to satisfy local politicians. When they post "all sorts of pics like they're promoting" - that's to satisfy local their advertisers.

They also seem to be upset that cops are passing bikers who are not wearing helmets!... I'd posted on another forum that many MBPD officers have told me they are NOT going to stop and warn/cite a helmet violation rider UNLESS the bike can easily approached and stopped. ESCPECIALLY on an open highway (like Bypass 17 or in heavy traffic conditions - and particularly if the bike is going the opposite direction). One officer put it best by saying (as close to an exact quote as I recall): "I am NOT going to be known as THE MBPD officer who was responsible for causing an accident and/or KILLING somebody just to pursue a minor and very controversial infraction!"It's known as DESCRETION - which is a time-honored tradition in law enforcement.

I've been all over today! From Murrells Inlet to the Harley dealer lots of Bikers. The City was a ghost town, The Rat Hole was busy, Myrtle Beach Mall isn't set-up yet and Barefoot Landing was full of Bikers. Didn't go out to HB Spokes but heard allot was going on out there. There's allot of Bikers here staying all over the Strand and quite a few are staying in the City on Ocean Blvd but saw a very few parked at any bars or restaurants except the Dog House South. I expect many Bikers to roll in between Tuesday-Thursday and a huge weekend which will make for a successful Rally and hopefully stick in the minds of the visitors so they can pass the word and return next year. Range, when are you going to get your bike out of your carport and ride it?

Cooters wasn't packed but was very busy. Didnt go into Murrells Inlet yet but will tomorrow. There are Bikes rolling in and it is business as usual except in MB. May they enjoy their peace and quiet., RIP MB. Not A Dime In 09

I look at all of these Bikers that are here and wonder if any of them are here because of all of the hours I spent on the internet joining forums all over the East Coast and major cities east of the Mississippi trying to erase the Mayor & City Council's lies published by the Chamber of Commerce saying they canceled the Rallies. I expect allot more to come in by Wednesday and hope everyone can take home a good experience and spread the word for next year. Hopefully next year we'll have new leadership for the City, remove some of these new ordinances by the end of the summer and open up the City so we can get Broadway at the Beach back in action. Next we can prepare for the fall Rally.

... Range, when are you going to get your bike out of your carport and ride it? I got out a little while Friday, but worked 13-hour night shifts through the weekend; so I was mostly sleeping otherwise while the bike was also "resting up" for this week. I got off at around noon yesterday, but I had a bunch a full-auto firearms to transport afterward - and didn't want to give MBPD a collective heart attack if they saw all THOSE strapped on a Harley - so I used a more "proper" mode of transport. But NOW I'm done working - now officially on vacation - until next weekend, rested up as best as I can, and will be going at it this week. By the way, I had a long talk with Buster (owner) out at the Rat Hole Friday. He and his staff did a TON of promotion and getting the word out over the past few months at OTHER rallies/events all over the eastern US that THIS rally is still on, and they're doing a LOT of other rally-beneficial efforts behind the scenes as well. EVERYTHING at the Rat Hole goes full swing today. Hope to see EVERYONE out there at ALL rally activities this week!

Range Been riding all day. Had great food, great companionship, got wet,got dry, went to thingyS,saw flhman, ( prefab didn't show) and generally just enjoyed the day. Hope it is the same for all. Been a great bike week so far. Street chatter is that MB is going to have to dismiss all the tickets written under the administrative hearing included but not limited to the Freedom ride. You heard it here first. ... ;D ;D

That's why they got all those Moped dummies to pay the $100 fine. The first one that paid had his ticket issued on 04/04/09 well after the Protest Ride. I've been saying all along that it is illegal for them to rewrite a ticket in their favor and get away with it. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they did drop all those tickets issued to the Motorcyclist. Like I said on the Sun News Forum, I've been seeing City cops looking the other way at some helmet-less riders in the City.
