Just heard from a friend who lives at the MB/NMB line about the fire. Wanted to find out if everyone's OK down there. The pics on Sun Noise website are awful! Hope y'all are OK. My thoughts go out to those who have been affected.

It started about 5 miles from me but moved towards the coast. OK here, can see the smoke but can't smell it. There's a fire station across from me and some guys just came in, for some much needed rest, I guess.

No direct on me at all.
However, as a retired Public Safety Officer, I spent my entire adult life until 1999 as a certified firefighter (last holding fire rank of Lieutenant Firefighter/EMT) in addition to the law enforcement and various related coordinator positions in different agencies. I can thus relate to all that is going on.
While it's terrible to think of anything but the crisis at hand, I wonder how long it will take before any local municipality and its officials use this as justification to promote tax increases or related government actions - not associated directly with fire losses to specific victims - due to lost tourism and/or some special agenda?

It would be a good time for some of the county employees to negotiate the pay cut they have been given.

Those thoughts have come across what passes for my mind... Also, I have seen that a large number of the photos and videos are taken from the Grande Dunes...Very odd.

We`re fine out on Hwy. 905 north of Conway. Our prayers are with those east of here. Just heard from a friend who lives at the MB/NMB line about the fire. Wanted to find out if everyone's OK down there. The pics on Sun Noise website are awful! Hope y'all are OK. My thoughts go out to those who have been affected.

Good to hear. Any word on the cause? My brother up in NY got the news up there that it was some idiot that moved down here from Long Island NY 6 years ago was burning his garbage like he always does (living in a forest, duh!) and in day or so the embers ignited and started the whole thing. He's going to pay a $700 fine if all this is accurate.

He's going to pay a $700 fine if all this is accurate. It appears that the SC Forestry Commission is now trying to retract their fingers of blame, as they should be. OK BOYS, you all know you can't believe everything you read or hear on the news. This poor man was receiving death threats due to this issue. I hope he and his family are OK and that people will understand it wasn't all his fault. Even with these fires burning, people in this county were still burning stuff in their yards. It's crazy, but they were doing it We heard from some guys cutting lines, they said that they had to jump from their dozer's and lay flat on the ground as a 150 ft wall of fire jumped over them and their equipment. It appears that no one was killed but many lost everything they owned. All of my folks in the affected area are OK. Things are fine on the south end of MB Proper. Perhaps the State will reconsider the additional 30% cut to these agencies, we do have a lot of woods around here.
