I think the Carolina Harley Davidson Dealers Association will move to New Bern but I doubt all the bikers will. The association hasn`t done much for this rally, the businesses will keep it alive and it could possibly be better. The bikers make the rally, not the association. Heard this was coming. It is official now. Looks like they are joining the the Myrtle Beach Boycott. It will be interesting to see what the local HD response is Must agree. Think people will still come in numbers. Me and de ole lady will be there. Just won't go into the city. More of my money to the folks in the county. Sure they won't complain.

I'm guessing that this will send chills thru the local dealership & all bikere orientated business inside of Horry County. It's now an official boycott of all Horry County. Who's gonna come now?Maybe we can get the Honda Hoot moved here. I also agree with you, this will sent chills through Horry County, However I hope and pray that the rally will continue for years to come. I am still coming, and this year HD is still planning to have the demo rides and pin stop from the 13th to the 16th this could change. It would be nice if biker orientated business'es put a lot of pressure on the city of MB

I posted this on several other forums so you may have already seen it but for those who haven`t; I wrote the Carolina Harley Davidson Dealers Association tonight and here is their reply; Clint, There will still be Bike Week at Myrtle Beach and bikers will be there in May. Many bikers, however, are refusing to return to Myrtle Beach and we are offering an alternative location where they will be welcomed. Sandy Owens The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association Pretty disappointed in HD but as everyone knows the Horry County Rally is about a lot more than HD. It's bikes of all sorts and the "Freedom to Ride". The location is important otherwise 69+ years begins to get an asterisk. Bikers have bought timeshares, rented motel rooms for years, established lifelong friendships and this is the stuff that is important to continue. HD can take their vendor rally on 40 acres to New Bern but we're still headed to MB with a load of other bikers to enjoy the sun, the beach, friends and bikes while we ride in that warm southern air. Pretty impressed with what you locals have done so far and I know this stuff has got to be tough year round especially on MB riders. We come in for a week each year and don't have to live with it the rest of the time but we love the area and we're coming back in May. We salute you guys for continuing to fight the good fight. I agree, My wife and I attend every spring and fall, we discussed it today and we are not going to New Bern NC, We are going to stay at the same place in MB that we have stayed for 3 years. We love the beach and the area, There are many places we love to visit and businesses we patronize every year. Cant wait until May. Hope to see you there, Ride Safe.

MY WIFE AND I WILL STILL BE AT MYRTLE BEACH(NOT WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS) FOR A WEEK IN MAY. WE'LL HIT NEW BERN ON THE WAY HOME TO PA. AT THE END OF BIKE WEEK Huggy, I am not down there and don't have a feel for all the nuances and local politics, but my read on the announcement is pretty much what you just said. A symbolic and unofficial endorsement of the boycott, an "official" snub of the beach, followed by "moving" it to a tiny venue for only 2 days knowing full well the people who have been coming for decades aren't just gonna make a mad dash to a field in New Bern. I think they are hoping to get exactly what you said, some people stopping by on their way out of the Strand or others like the Bird who may make a day trip out of it. If you are a cynic, you might even conclude that this gives them legal insulation from the ordinance that might otherwise hold them liable for damages asserted by MB after the rally.

The four of us from Connecticut are still coming down and staying in North Myrtle Beach. It still should be a lot of fun. Good riding and good people, as long as your outside of the city limits.

New Bern seems like a far cry from being "on the way" to anywhere but the Outer Banks.. Sorry, I think I'll stick to Horry County for the rally.

There was AP an article in todays Washington NC newspaper addressing the CHDDA move. Also quoted in the article was mayor Rhodes statement from chambers website stating the city is ending the motorcycle related rallies Just thought you all might want to know what is showing up in print outside of SC The article reads as if the entire rally is moving up here

After last night's move, you might want to at least rethink the North Myrtle Beach part of that. Looks to me like they are in league with Rhodes and Myrtle Beach in attempting to squash the rallies. Looks like the boycott is going to have to be expanded....

I commute 110 miles one way to work, so just about anything within the borders of the state would be more or less "one the way."

Pat,
I just sent an email off to North Myrtle Beach to get clarification on their stance concerning bike week. Regardless of there answer we are still coming down in May to enjoy some warm weather and riding after a long and snowy winter in New England.
I'll let you know what I hear from them.

Outty Thats what I was waiting to see. The CHDDA pulling out is not something that this Rally will miss. New Bern is a nice little town but a day ride at best compared to all the Grand Strand has to offer. I am thankful to the town and Mayor but this is The Rally If my local HD Dealership says we are having a Rally that is good enough for me. Not that we need any sponsor to meet and Rally but I was waiting to see them STAND AND BE COUNTED. And that they did. I say come on down for the real 69 annual Rally here in Horry County. May 8th through the 17th. Same Bat time same Bat Channel. ;D

Our local Harley dealership and businesses will ensure the rally continues and I think it will be business as usual. YEA!!! Outty Thats what I was waiting to see. John Smithson, NMB City Manager, is talking out both sides of his mouth. The recent deal cut between AB, MB, NMB, and Horry County is completely unambiguous. In exchange for various goodies and subsidies, the others (and this INCLUDES NMB) want AB to kill BikeFest. On the surface, this seems unrelated to the HD Rally but it sure as hell is not. It is a good bet that one of the ways the other cities will want AB to kill BikeFest is by passing their own ordinances, and that isn't going to be in the HD rallies interest. It will spread like a cancer. I personally would want to hear NMB directly address this issue of their working to kill BikeFest, and why that is not a threat to the HD rallies in turn. Their little memo saying we love everyone and come spend money here did nothing to assure ME on this subject. But, maybe that's just me.

I agree Their memo Does nothing to assure me either, However in my opinion, I think the AB Bike rally is the real target not the HD rally. I also think that is why CHDDA moved to NC, To distance themselves from the AB rally. If I am correct Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson is not a member of CHDDA. MBHD has spent alot of money getting ready for 09 Spring Rally, I am sure that is why they are putting the word out also$$$$$
