PRESS RELEASE The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association is pleased to announce that our 69th Annual Spring Rally will be held in New Bern, North Carolina on May 15 & 16. The rally site is the New Bern Fairgrounds, a 40 plus acre site located at 3700 East US 70 Highway in New Bern. Mark Cox, President of The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association said, “We feel it is in the best interest of The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association and our customers to leave the Myrtle Beach rally venue. We will continue our legacy of 69 years celebrating the oldest, continuous rally by offering our Spring Beach Rally in New Bern”. Mark went on to say, “This new venue will allow us to get back to basics and offer our existing and new customers a rally experience they will appreciate without restrictions and with the ability to enjoy the freedom of riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle”. Yes, it is good-bye Myrtle Beach! We have given this issue serious consideration and wanted to go where we would be welcomed with open arms. T.A. Bayliss, III, the mayor of New Bern, words of welcome say it best, “We are pleased and honored that you have chosen to hold your rally in our city, and we pledge our total cooperation in making your rally a most pleasurable and memorable occasion for all in attendance”. Historic New Bern, located at the confluence of two rivers, is the second oldest town in North Carolina. One of its many features is the picturesque downtown waterfront district and New Bern is only a 30-minute motorcycle ride to the beaches. Or, if you prefer, plan a ride to the Croatan National Forest located southeast of New Bern. I'm guessing that this will send chills thru the local dealership & all bikere orientated business inside of Horry County. It's now an official boycott of all Horry County. Who's gonna come now?Maybe we can get the Honda Hoot moved here.

HD and HOG are STILL scheduled to be here during the week. HD and HOG are advertising Myrtle Beach as a demo stop and a pin stop. But that could change with this announcement.
The anti-rally people are going to have a field day with this!

Like Bird said, New Bern is a small venue without a lot of motels. Most motels at the beach have gone private condos. They will have to keep it really small in comparison to stay in New Bern. I know that for sure. I live only 35 miles from New Bern.

Pretty disappointed in HD but as everyone knows the Horry County Rally is about a lot more than HD. It's bikes of all sorts and the "Freedom to Ride". The location is important otherwise 69+ years begins to get an asterisk. Bikers have bought timeshares, rented motel rooms for years, established lifelong friendships and this is the stuff that is important to continue. HD can take their vendor rally on 40 acres to New Bern but we're still headed to MB with a load of other bikers to enjoy the sun, the beach, friends and bikes while we ride in that warm southern air. Pretty impressed with what you locals have done so far and I know this stuff has got to be tough year round especially on MB riders. We come in for a week each year and don't have to live with it the rest of the time but we love the area and we're coming back in May. We salute you guys for continuing to fight the good fight.

I agree with everything kroozr said. We will still be in Horry County for a few days come May as I am sure a lot of others will. Traditions don't just get put to an end that easily.

YAWN... This story isn't even newsworthy. All the years I attended the Rally all that the Dealers Assoc. did was hand out HOG pins. Just makes good News headlines for the gray hairs.

I don't think many people came here because of HD. The HD dealers started it but it got a lot bigger than them. A 68 year old tradition just ain't gonna go away over night.
But, the people that do go to New Bern, they will be spending money that Myrtle Beach won't be getting.
The mayor may lose a few people during the Harley Rally but I'll bet he has a full house memorial Day weekend.

I think the Carolina Harley Davidson Dealers Association will move to New Bern but I doubt all the bikers will. The association hasn`t done much for this rally, the businesses will keep it alive and it could possibly be better. The bikers make the rally, not the association. Heard this was coming. It is official now. Looks like they are joining the the Myrtle Beach Boycott. It will be interesting to see what the local HD response is

I agree, My wife and I attend every spring and fall, we discussed it today and we are not going to New Bern NC, We are going to stay at the same place in MB that we have stayed for 3 years. We love the beach and the area, There are many places we love to visit and businesses we patronize every year. Cant wait until May. Hope to see you there, Ride Safe.
