And $35,000 to the director for putting on this ONE event?
Last year they got $380,000 for this event where 4,200 showed up.
They PAID $90 PER PERSON to get people there!
Even if they got the 12,000 they hoped for, that is still over $30 a head to get them there.
And I don't care what they say, most all of those people that went were LOCALS.
And I love how they try to say room bookings were up from previous year yet, across the state, bookings were up MORE.
But to ask for $150,000 MORE for this year for an event that was really a disaster?

And $35,000 to the director for putting on this ONE event? And do you know anything ABOUT that event director (Candace Howell)? Just go to the article you linked and look at the response I just posted (I'd also posted 3 of them early this morning; they were the same responses I'd posted to the "Breaking News" version of this story from yesterday). Or - I'll just post below what I'd just posted to the Sun News article - check THIS out:**************************************************** "From the article:
"...Among Coastal Uncorked's largest expenses, according to the grant application, are advertising and a $35,000 annual salary for Candace Howell, the event's executive director..." -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boycott_MB posted:
"...Candance Howell is paid $35,000...I guess that is why City Council would approve $150,000 so the tax payers will pay her salary. Is she politically connected to Rhodes and his cronnies???..." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, it's even BETTER than her just being connected to Rhodes and his cronies. In addition to also being a "local television personality" - Candance Howell is, the last I knew and can now confirm, the GENERAL MANAGER of EagleRider Myrtle Beach Motorcycle Rentals and Tours. From their website (I verified they're still in business):
"Eagle Rider Myrtle Beach is the only Eagle Rider location in South Carolina. The business opened in April of 2008 and with large events like Myrtle Beach’s spring and fall Harley® rallies it should grow rapidly. Eagle Rider Myrtle Beach carries more than a dozen Harley-Davidson® motorcycles and even more scooters! A fleet that will likely double in 2008. Also ask about Eagle Rider Myrtle Beach sales offers. You can rent before you buy with Eagle Rider Myrtle Beach."
Here's the link to their website - and take notice of the line that reads "GM – Candace Howell": www.eaglerider.com/myrtlebeach/about-us.aspx Oh, and by the way - here's a "news spot" for Coastal Uncorked in which she presents some remarks (I'm sure you'll realize who she is when you see her):
www.wmbfnews.com/story/13917625/event-promises-to-boost-may-business
And here's a press release from EagleRider that she did a few rallies ago:
www.eagleridermb.com/press/20090414.html
In other words - she's just like Wayne Gray with his "Welcome Bikers!" signs on his restaurants ( a move he claimed were "just a business thing" when publicly confronted about it). In my opinion, she obviously only cares about what puts money in her own pocket." You know - it would be almost impossible to even make this stuff up and make it so good!
