Now that the elections are over, and I guess all know won the Horry county chair, I feel that this win will or could be the real death blow for the rallies. I have a feeling that this idiot will force the will of the "take bcak may" zealots on all of Horry county. He will strictly enforce all present rules and regulations, pass new and stricter rules and regulations until the rallies are a distant memory. This guy is going to force the WILL of Myrtle Beach on the county.
Man, I hope I am wrong, but I just don't think so.

U no its a sad day when Rice said and quote don't need or want anything to do with bikers of any kind [that goes for military groups or pgr and so on , so if u ride 2 wheels this includes u] in Horry County...He used it as part of his campaign and still won and won big ... Sad Day Ahead for Horry County...

It is very sad that Mr Rice gets elected and continues to drive visitors from the beach that he deems not worthy of vacationing there. The majority put him in office so there must be a whole lot of people living in Horry County that are antibiker. I'm getting that not wanted feeling after 14 years in a row of coming down. We thought we were safe staying in NMB but I guess not now. Well I hear the Outer Banks is a good place to visit, maybe its time to move on.

Sounds good in theory ;D, but now that he's been elected he'll wake up and realize that the biker money is good for the Horry county economy ;D I didn't follow his platform, but if it was to get rid of the bikers and the voters voted him in based on that, then yes we're screwed, if it was on helping get people back to work then we might stand a chance. ...The majority put him in office so there must be a whole lot of people living in Horry County that are antibiker... No - actually, it's very truthful to say that a very high number (probably a vast majority) of people who voted for Rice didn't even know or recall his anti-biker association nor his "trillion dollars" statement, etc. They voted on just what they did know - what they were told - about Rice during the campaign, which wasn't very much other than what Rice and his handlers wanted them to know…

the big question will his true colors come out now that he's been elected I've had interesting conversations recently about Rice with: a couple of people active with the NAACP (one of whom was media-quoted 2 years ago with public statements when she contended that the City of Myrtle Beach and Horry County efforts were almost exclusively aimed at AB BikeFest, and Blacks in particular), and some others who are active in military veteran's groups. They've hinted - rather strongly - that if Tom Rice starts anti-biker/anti-rally efforts as the Chairman of Horry County Council, they likely won't hesitate to publicly counter and start advocacy efforts to claim that it's a coordinated effort to go after people based on their race (NAACP) and veterans (based on a claim that local governments, especially the highly Tom Rice-connected City of Myrtle Beach, don't want anyone "intruding" on their Military Appreciation Days).
Not that I'd say these people themselves are necessarily "spokespersons" for their groups - but it's talk that they've heard and has been relayed to me.
Tom Rice would probably be wise to sit back and just observe how each individual event goes off in the coming year or 2 before he decides to do anything negative toward them. If he actually does make an effort to work with event organizers and participants to address any concerns - he may find that he can avoid the above situations while actually accomplishing what his duties require of him in ways beneficial to all. What I'm curious about, will his name come up in the FBI/IRS investigation Like anything else involved with the investigation - I can't comment on that at this time...

Don't get to excited about Rice winning the election..1st off he had no real competition . The chairman of the county council in reality is only one vote. From what I saw back when Rice stood before council for Take back may he wasn't well liked by the majority of council members. And last but not least ever since the State Supreme court slapped the city upside the head and back to reality local govt will be more careful before they trample on any ones rights...my opinion....Tom Rice is a non issue just like hoppin John

Range,,, you're such a tease, HAHA, I hope your right. Time will tell. I've been in contact with one of the venders "ChromeMasters" out of Nashville TN that use to be at Broadway at the Beach center court with there display and they said they won't be back because of all the BS and the cost for permits. The fees will keep most vendors away, and I believe Rice knows that. That is a damaging effect. Nuff said, we'll wait and see!! Range keep us posted Attachments:

It strikes me that the rallies have been dealt a near fatal blow. What will happen to them in the future we can only guess.
To be sure there are many Northern bikers who like to get a good start on the riding season by coming to a Spring Southern rally. Some other place may decide to take up the slack & have a May rally which would likely put the last nails in the coffin of the MB rally.
At the present time I am more concerned about our elected officials declaring war on anything motorcycle related particularly riding one on the public roads.

Panama City is already picking up the slack. Their rally is the end of April going in to May. This rally started from nothing a few years ago, jumped to 50,000 and now with all the Myrtle Beach stuff, their rally is over 100,000 people strong and growing. I know many "yankees" that went to PC instead of MB the past year and they loved it. Once you lose an audience, it is very hard to get it back. I don't think the rallies are going anywhere. I saw a good number of bikers inside the city during the fall rally. I think that was a good sign that they will return in the spring. The helmet law was overturned and the city slashed it's police budget. So i think that will give the people the confidence to return to the city without having to worry about harassment.

My read on the Rallies is as follows. There will be some like me who canceled all races in Daytona and all other activities there and have not returned since they did their thing many years ago. They will do the same to MB. Until I run out of other places to go I will not support Daytona or MB ever. There will be some who will come just so as not to be pushed around. The Spring and Fall Rally will never have much support from the locals as long as the Harley Shop is in charge. I don't think the Rallies will reach the proportion they were before MB and Tom Rice declared war. As for Tom Rice he has bigger fish to fry and I predict he will ignore the Rally issue. As for Bird I only attended 1 day of this years Rally and could care less if we have one or not. My bike knows how to hit the open road in search of adventure. As far as Panama Beach all I can say is that to a person everyone I know that went are going back. I guess that says a lot. Be well all and Happy Thanksgiving
