UPDATE: Finally...----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- News - Breaking News Tuesday, Jun. 22, 2010
MYRTLE BEACH WOMAN CHARGED IN FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH Janelle Frost - jfrost@thesunnews.com
A Myrtle Beach woman has been charged in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred last month on U.S.17 Bypass during the Crusin' the Coast spring rally.
The S.C. Highway Patrol has charged Gwendolyn Rich, 18, with driving too fast for conditions, Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said Tuesday.
James Marlow, 28, of Ocala, Fla., died after the motorcycle he was driving and the car Rich was driving collided on U.S. 17 Bypass near Shetland Lane on May 13.
Marlow died due to multiple trauma he suffered from the wreck, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
Marlow was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a woman passenger heading northbound in the left lane on U.S.17 Bypass. As the motorcycle slowed down to make a left turn, it was struck from behind by a 1987 Oldsmobile driven by Rich, said Cpl. Paul Brouthers with the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Rich was not injured in the incident, and the woman riding with Marlow was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated.
Marlow’s brother, Brian Marlow, said at the time that the passenger was his brother’s girlfriend, Heather Cook, and that the two were in Myrtle Beach for the motorcycle rally.www.thesunnews.com/2010/06/22/1547279/myrtle-beach-woman-charged-in.html

Range, perhaps I missed somerthing in the article, but do they also plan to charge her with manslaughter? Doesn't appear so. I should note that her identity HAS been known on one of my attorney sites since 5 days after the accident.
However, the location of the accident was wrongly identified as Charleston - not Myrtle Beach - so I couldn't post anything about it here nor elsewhere as credible...

A speeding ticket is all? The shame of it all is that Liz Gilland MAY end up with more of an overall CRIMINAL penalty, ordeal, and expenses from her recent improper u-turn conviction (converted to a "disregarding a traffic sign" charge) than THIS driver will have from causing the fatality to a biker. However - I have no doubt the CIVIL repercussions against her will be severe...

As far as I know Michael Hilton still has not went to trial on the Bikers he ran over; then according to reports on the scene drove home intoxicated, then walked back to the scene where he was identified and charged. How long has this been without even a court date ? Haven't read anything in the news about it either.

So by the law down there, if I am driving a 18 wheeler and plow into a vehicle making a legal turn and kill someone, all I will get is a speeding ticket? Just curious!!

Is there a different set of laws if an accident kills a biker? Seems like its no big deal in MB, just one less two wheeler to worry about. Rider gets killed making a legal left turn, hit from behind and the 4 wheeler only gets a speeding ticket? Come on........................................

So I guess the message is, if you don't like bikers, just kill them with "YOUR CAR" pay a small fine and move on. Seems a bit STRANGE............
