Myrtle Beach police plan more checkpoints as Harley rally approaches - May 1, 11:16 a.m.
Myrtle Beach Police have planned multiple checkpoints during the month of May, most of which coincide with the upcoming May motorcycle rallies. (Photo by Michael Smith | The Chronicle). By Michael Smith Editor With the annual Myrtle Beach Bike Week motorcycle rally rolling around the corner, Myrtle Beach Police are planning another round of checkpoints. This year's Harley-Davidson motorcycle rally is scheduled for May 7-16, according to the Harley rally's website. The City of Myrtle Beach police checkpoints will be held at various locations from May 1-26, said Myrtle Beach Police Sgt. John Bertang. In 2009, the city set up a series of controversial checkpoints on U.S. 501, which created traffic jams stretching back to Carolina Forest. Also in 2009, the city enacted 15 controversial biker laws aimed at eliminating May motorcycle rallies and deterring bikers from visiting. A noise ordinance, mandatory helmet law and anti-loitering laws were among the measures put into place. City leaders have denied the checkpoints were put in place to make a statement to bikers, though the road checks coincided with the Harley rally and subsequent Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Weekend Rally. Here's when and where the checkpoints will be held: • May 1, Grissom Parkway and 48th Avenue North | 1:30 to 4 p.m. • May 9, Farrow Parkway, Market Common | 1 to 3:30 p.m. • May 18, Hemlock Avenue | 8:30 to 10 a.m. • May 18, 76th Avenue North | 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. • May 18, Boundary Street | 2 to 3:30 p.m. • May 18, Stalvey Avenue | 4 to 5:30 p.m. • May 26, South Ocean Boulevard (unspecified location), 1 to 3:30 p.m. Read more on this story and the upcoming Harley-Davidson rally in the May 6 edition of the Carolina Forest Chronicle.

Black Bike Week 2010 A.K.A The Atlantic Bike Beach Festival When: May 27 - May 31, 2010 Where: Myrtle Beach, S.C
Looks like no traffic checkpoints during May 27, 28, 29, 30, 31st I guess that works out well for ABBW,
MB doesn't want to give their "BEST NEW BUDDY" the naacp any reason to be upset...

Myrtle Beach police plan more checkpoints as Harley rally approaches - May 1, 11:16 a.m. Myrtle Beach Police have planned multiple checkpoints during the month of May, most of which coincide with the upcoming May motorcycle rallies. (Photo by Michael Smith | The Chronicle). ... "...most of which coincide with the upcoming May motorcycle rallies"? NOT TRUE at all! I only see ONE that coincides with EITHER "motorcycle rally" - the one on the 9th, EARLY in the Harley Rally. All the rest are either BEFORE the Harley Rally (the one today) or AFTER it (the four on the 18th and the one on the 26th).
ALL are BEFORE the Atlantic Beach so-called "BikeFest" (as posted above).
However, most of the checkpoints ARE during the so-called "NEW" events the City of Myrtle Beach has created - most of which will be attended by locals. In particular, the FOUR checkpoints on the 18th are during "Coastal Uncorked".
The Carolina Forest Chronicle is usually rather reliable - but THIS article reads more like a SUN NEWS report regarding its (lack of) accuracy and integrity.
Link to the article: www.thecarolinaforestchronicle.com/v2/content.aspx?ID=21535&MemberID=1598 Bottom line: In all likelihood, the VAST MAJORITY of the citations/arrests these checkpoints generate, AS USUAL, will be NON-BIKER (locals and others during city-sponsored ALCOHOL-GEARED events) related or involved - yet the media will SURELY but IMPROPERLY (as the article suggests) reflect them as being BIKER-connected. EDIT NOTE: POSSIBLY, the quote I cited above - the caption from the accompanying photograph - MAY have been from an article LAST year.
IF SO, the CF Chronicle should STATE THAT - as the current impression given is NOT accurate at all...

Instead of May Fest they should call it MAY TICKET FEST. This is MB way to generate much needed funds. MB locals elected the fools to run there city, so now they have to put up with all the BS they come up with.

Welcome! Welcome! to the fleecing of your life, revenue enhancement is the wave of the future hereabouts in Myrtle Beach.
Next thing they will be installing Cash Registers in the Police Cars.
The high roller blue blood Wine aficionados will no doubt find themselves making some unexpected contributions to the Myrtle Beach coffers.
Instead of the thousands of Bikers willingly and happily spending millions of dollars in MB, they will be luring the wine & cheese snobs into their clutches & then squeezing their wallets and otherwise annoying them with traffic checkpoints.
The whining of those treated this way might just be louder than the dreaded motorcycles!

And I think their Guinness thing is by totalling all the rallies. If you notice, they had a rally at Daytona advertising the same thing, Sturgis the same thing, etc...

Most if not all who have come to MB for the rally knows that the New Bern rally being the 70th is BS. I agree the New Bern rally is BS , however the rally is or was actually the Carolina Dealer Association Rally and it would be the 70th. So that statement is accurate. The Carolina dealer assoc was made up of most of the dealers in the Carolina's and who worked together to support the biker community with this event. Over the years many dealers pulled out of the assoc. MB HD from what I remember isn't part of the assocation. Well, I said my 4 cents here. ;D Ya'll Ride SAFE!!!!! Will the SC Supreme court ever make up there minds!!!! ;D ;D Attachments:

Yeah, I've heard from friends who are local that the Court is keeping this a low priority, since it could potentially affect the ability of a town to govern itself. Of course, I believe that the state law should not be overridden, but I'm no lawyer. Sorry I've been away for a while - New work schedule SUCKS!!!
BTW - I am going down on the 15th and leaving the 16th... I don't want to miss the week totally!!
