Did anybody attend the meeting yesterday? If so, how did it turn out?

I attended the meeting and also was interviewed and on the 11 O'Clock news for wmbf. There is an article about the meeting on the wmbf on line news as well. The speaker represented over 300 businesses who have signed a petition and that petition will be delivered to the Horry County Council today in advance of tomorrow's meeting. They are asking Horry County Council to table the vendor/bike week discussions until after the Spring Rally so as to have time to come up with real solutions before any more economic destruction will be done to the MB area. They said that there is a billboard in NY that says to Stay Away From MB and that Lakewood Campground which is usually full for Bike Week by this time did not have a single reservation.Seems the public backlash from the Mayor's actions are both a national issue and one that is bringing disgrace to the entire area. Some stated that the negative national publicity will take up to 10 years to get rid of and that many businesses will close if this situation is allowed to continue. ALL were 100% in favor of the Rally and will be unified and united in their stance. They will all be at tomorrow nights meeting where Council will have the last vote to make the new County ordinances law or not. Get there early as it will be standing room only. Over 300 Businesses? That's pretty amazing to hear of those numbers. And to boot, a billboard in NY telling people to stay away from MB! Jeesh, doesn't the city council have any clue as to what they have done to their area? Man, you guys HAVE to get them voted out before they destroy everything!

How many of these were owners of business inside MB city limits? Anyway, it's about time some more business owners are speaking out. I guess they were waiting to see just how bad the backlash would be and it doesn't look good for them. I just hope that they haven't waited too long to speak up.

Like geezer, I too am curious as to how many of the business owners now getting involved are from inside MB. Also curious how many are hotel/motel owners who are just now realizing the impact because they are not getting their usual reservations for Bike Week.

I am having a hard time generating much sympathy for them. The Goddess is exactly right. They waited until the last possible moment to take a stand, and now its gonna cost them. If they had acted with conviction early on when they were warned this was going to happen, things might have gone down differently. To quote the great Pat Morita... "Walk in middle of road, SQUISH! Just like bug."

This was my feeling about Not A Dime In '09. If Myrtle Beach business owners wanted biker money, more than just a few should have spoken up. They acted like they just didn't care...until now. It may be too little, too late for them.
But on a bright side, the new candidate for mayor is getting a campaign gift handed to him/her. Their tax increase money is being used to support Atlantic Beach.

I think most of the business owners didn't expect the county to follow suit with the city. They probably thought it would all blow over and not affect them. Now they realize they were wrong and they better change it.
But like you said geezer, too little, too late. Especially with the economy in the tanks.

I said what I meant and I meant what I said. Like the Mayor said at the meeting. I did not stutter. NOT A DIME IN 09
