I know that I am not alone in my opinion and I hope that each of us will take the time to express our frustrations. This is not the time to be "politically correct"... I am tired of being nice just to save my reputation... or keep the public from assuming that all bikers are "bad" or "mean"... I AM BAD AND I AM MEAN AND I AM PISSED OFF!!!! IF THE CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH WANTS A FIGHT, THEN THEY'VE GOT ONE. I AIN'T BACKING DOWN AND I AM NOT BEING NICE. I may not win the fight but they will d**n sure know they've been in one!!!!!!
What the hell are you thinking John Rhodes, Mayor of Myrtle Beach? For anyone who is interested....I have the audio tape of this idiot campaigning for the Bikers votes during an ABATE meeting prior to his election. Also on this tape are Wayne Gray and Randall Wallace who also sit on City Council and Marion Foxworth, County Councilman, all begging for the biker's to support them. Well, ok... they promised to support us if we would support them....more empty promises and political CRAP!!! Did they forget they each hold positions that we helped them get....Well, I hope you have your resumes updated because I am sure that I speak for all bikers, rally supporters and businesses in Myrtle Beach that have lost revenue yet have to pay higher taxes....WE WILL BE LOUD, STRONG and DILIGENT during the next election. You lying idiots that forgot that TOURISM is our #1 industry should take a moment to chat with former Mayor of Myrtle Beach, Mark McBride...one foolish and threatening comment aimed towards bikers (of which he has made a public apology) cost him his re-election. Don't be so foolish JOHN (you don't deserve the respect of Mr. or Mr. Mayor) to think that your current POWER is enough! Prepare for battle...Myrtle Beach has been welcoming bikers for 69 years so don't think that, with your lies and your little council and your recent attempt to generate the cities potential revenue losses by increasing taxes, YOU can win this war.
I, a native of Horry County who has been riding two wheels for many years, a business owner, a property owner, a tax payer and a woman who donates a lot of time and energy to community programs and benefits for the less fortunate, AM PISSED OFF and will not stand by quietly while some foolish politicians screw with my rights and livelihood. Were the terms DISCRIMINATION AND PROFILING omitted from the legal text books that Mr. City Attorney studied?
It is time to for all “BIKERS” (and supporters) to unite and to stand up for one thing that we are all so very passionate about….FREEDOM! Whether you ride or not, we have to STOP this council…they are destroying OUR town, killing our local economy, creating animosity within our community.
A Native, A Biker, A Force to be Reckoned with!!

Hey Sunshine Freebird welcomes you to the site and understands. This hits you and others in many ways.Putting these people in office running on a pro business/pro biker platform and have them do this must be painfull. Then your personal liberties are under attack. Now comes your livelyhood in which the small business community employs about 80% of the entire workforce. Then you get the job of telling your valued employees that we do not have enough business and either cut hours or staff.I could go on but we all know the drill. It is time to dump these people on their ceremonial butts. The Bird is here to lend an ear. Blessings Freebird

Hey Sunshine. Sounds like you are fired up! Good for you. I am reminded of a scene from the movie Network many years ago. "I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it any more." If more of us would become passionate about the misdeeds of our elected politicians, then perhaps we would not now be sending nearly one trillion dollars (that is $1,000,000,000,000.00) of our hard earned tax dollars to bail out corrupt lending institutions and irresponsible borrowers. Instead, the Wall Street fat cats who made the loans continue to go on junkets with pedicures and the people who "bought" more house than they can afford will get to keep those homes while you and I who know how to live within our means get to pay for them. <sigh>
Mayor Rhodes is no different than these big time players, he just has a smaller piece of our money to play with. But that doesn't mean that he cannot inflict significant pain and suffering to the community he is supposed to be protecting.
But, maybe that's just me.

Seems he wasn't thinking much at all. Keeping the Spring Bike rally was his platform when he was looking for votes. Here are some his "talking points" from the campaign...guess he don't remember talking to biker groups now....But Sunshine has him on tape and the newspaper's wrote stories about it too. Bike Rallies were a very hot topic back then, since Mark McBride wanted to bump bikers for wearing shirts he didn't want his kids to see. Of course Mark's seen the error of his ways...via unemployment!
John Rhodes, MB City Mayoral Candidate 2005
I’m for all tourism and seeing Myrtle Beach grow. We have to enforce the law. Then we will be able to control the situations that are causing the problems. Loud bikes going through neighborhoods is the biggest problem. We need to keep the bikes on the main roads. The main issue to be addressed is the noise. Bike week was promoted by Myrtle Beach long ago. Bike week didn’t start yesterday and it won’t end tomorrow, no matter who’s in office. You have to cooperate.
I really love that last one. No, Mr. Mayor, the Spring Rally started some 68 yrs ago! Recently, you might remember that the City of Myrtle Beach just celebrated it's 70th year anniversary. So it's seems that the City of MB has been around for 70yrs and the Spring rally around 68yrs....So tell me, Who made who?

Have you been here all your life or do you just know where to find all this great information? It sounds to me as you put it in your comment that the bike rallies made Myrtle Beach what it is today, I bet they can take all that away just as easily!!

Actually I lived here all my life. My family roots in Horry County go way back. I'm old and I remember when a man's word and a handshake were enough to close a deal.
I have no problems with change, it's a part of life. However I do take issue with folks who take advantage of people and those who try to take away someone's rights.
I said in the previous post that both MB and the Spring Rally have been around for about the same time. In giving the following information below, you might better understand why I made that last statement.
Statistics will show you that MB's population has not grown to the size it is today without tourists. Most "transplants" as they're commonly refered to, were in fact tourists at one time. Since the Spring rally brings in tourists and has been around about as long as the City, one might be able to conclude that some of these Rally tourists now call this area home.
Of course I could be wrong, maybe folks are just spinning the globe and picking this area to move to, LOL, if that's the case maybe these "globe spinners" will run for council next year.
Anyway, hope that answers your questions. In the meanwhile, I'll sit back and try to remember some more of this info to keep ya'll entertained, if nothing else.
Peace my friend, be safe, God bless!

Yes sir, I know exactly what transplants are!! I am one of them. There are a multiple of reasons we transplanted from MD to this particular area, and bike riding was one of them. We would come down for both rallies and decided to purchase a "summer" place. This is now our home until our home in Conway/Loris is complete. You see, we moved down here for southern hospitality and the biker friendly area to find that it isn't as biker friendly as we thought. We also found that many other transplants moved here but forgot to leave their northern attitudes in the north. We will enjoy the people who are friendly and enjoy the areas that welcome bikers. I look forward to more of your interesting information. =)

Concerned1 I come from a rural community in southern Md and remember when a handshake meant something as well. I remember when the Amish had refrigerators out by the road and you simply took what you wanted and left the money in a jar inside.I miss those days as the world is more impersonal now. To answer your question I have been coming to the Grand Strand for 20 years as my View from the Perch states. I found the people here to be very genuine and warm and decided to retire here. As I have told many: The sky is blue, the beer is cold, the tea is sweet, and the women are hot. What is not to like.Your knowledge and levity is welcomed by The Bird no matter which side of the issue we might be on. Blessings Freebird

Glad to have you here. I've lived in the Conway area all my life.
This area has always been biker friendly. I remember when the rally was in it's younger years and things were a lot different then. Back then in the early 70's you could drive by the front gate of the former AFB in MB and see bikers camping on the side of the road. The state parks were about the only place these guys paid to stay. Probably costed them very little to vacation here back then.
Times have changed, things have grown, but the concepts of the early bikers continues. Cruise to the coast, share time and memories with your friends old and new.
We've seen this anti-biker mood before. History tends to repeat itself.

Hey concerned1 I hope you don'tmind, but we live in Pa. and ride down every year for the spring rally. I have been reading, following the posts at myrtle beach online and here. It just amazes me how ignorant some of of the anti-rally people can be! It is very refreshing to read your post about the history of the rallies and the city. Thank you for the information for I will inform other people of this fact. Ride safe and keep the rubber side down my friend.

Hey Sunshine...
Great statement!!! I to am a woman who rides, pays property taxes in the city of Myrtle Beach and who votes at every election. You are so right regarding John Rhodes - he was all for the bikers while campaigning for Mayor. Not too worry, next year when the bikers still come and they will, all those residents he promised the rallies will end will vote him out along with us bikers. We need to get some of our people in office.
Doesn't anyone care that B & M Cycles are closing their doors in just a few days? WHY? because MOSt of their business is done during the rallies. It's a shame that people are already losing their business and have to lay off employees. This may be only the beginning.
Anyway - take care and lets round up everyone to support our rights!!!
