All the reports that I read, on here that is, state that the city was a ghost town. But the surrounding areas that are not chasing away tourists, at this time, have been fairing better than the city. Once you crunch all the numbers from the surrounding areas and the city, I think you would see an increase in numbers. This story, as usual, doesn't investigate the numbers thoroughly. They should break the numbers down by city, town, borough and report THOSE numbers. If they did that instead of lumping ALL the numbers into the Grand Strand, the picture would be much clearer. The people they interviewed said they ate a lot of turkey sandwiches on their way there, so that tells me that the city, as everybody has pointed out, is offering very good prices for their accomodations. Especially for the blue collar worker on a shoe string budget. Maybe someone down there should contact the CCU to ask them to break that report down to show exactly what city, town, borough has increased tourism. Now that would be interesting to see. Thanks Train..I figured as much but was unsure and knew I could get the truth at this site. I hope for your sake and all the others who live in or around the area that things go right in Nov. Plus that the helmet law gets overturned instantly. (Still makes me wonder tho, how high in government the corruption goes, because I would think the state would have jumped in at the beginning and overturned the helmet ordinance, since it goes against state law)
But then again I am thinking with logic and common sense. Been a long time since I have seen government use either
Classic.. I too would like to see them break it down. Either they hid the truth of MB losing revenue at an alarming rate by clumping the area together OR MB wasn't even included in the numbers so they could make it appear tourism is up "along the Grand Strand". (They never said they included MB in the final analysis but know all would assume they did) That smells more like them imo.

Purple, Most of the GMs I have spoken to said their hotel occupancy rates are higher than they were a year ago. However, in order to reach these goals they had to eliminate minimum night stays, lower rates significantly, and even shut down buildings not being used. I'm not sure if I buy the revenue increase argument. The kids are back in school; you have slashed room prices to the lowest in years; and you are going to have higher overhead/turnover costs due to eliminating min night stays. Thanks for the info and the link Ghost. I appreciate all the input. I have gotten to where I doubt everything I see and hear reported in the news about MB. I have seen too much spinning for too long to trust the "news", so thank you all for the truth.
