Too all. I think the toy run is on the Rolling Thunder site. Down in Homestead for the races and have very limited access but will try to look it up. Hope all are well

Okay, this is the traditional route of the Toy Run and it's on Dec 20th at noon.
"Usually starts at Inlet Square Mall and ends at McDonalds around 26 ave south MB. At least this is where it used to be."
This year, tho, there's still some discussion of an alternate destination because of the anti-rally sentiment. A lot of the bikers don't want to ride into MB.
If I hear any different, I'll post it.

Thanks!

Bro The Toy Run can be found on Rolling Thunder's site. Was advised it is sponsored by ABATE. Abate advised that the ending site is the responcibility of Horry County. All I know for sure is that my bike will go as far as the Harley Shop and turn around as I am NOT RIDING in the City. I hope the ending site is changed before then.

The Toy Run is still following the traditional route On Dec 20th at noon.
Most of the bikers I know, like you, Freebird, will stop at the Harley store. They will have their donations but will not deliver the toys themselves. (One even talked of alerting the media of this decision and have them waiting at the HD store!)
One person did comment that we should not make this toy run a political arena. It should focus on the children.
I can see her point - the idea is to NOT let them run us out of Myrtle Beach! Just don't spend a dime there.
What do you guys think?

Still trying to get the end route changed. There is a Toys for Tots basket at the MI Legion and will be picked up on the 17th of December. Waiting on an answer from Horry County Abate. Why would anyone think I would want to ride in the City?

It is Toy Run season again! Lowcountry ABATE will start its toy run at Berkeley High School located at 406 W Main St, Moncks Corner, SC. This toy run over the years has grown to be one of the largest in SC. Sign up begins at 10:00 am on Sunday November 30, 2008. The parade will begin at 1:00 pm. Participants are asked to donate a new unwrapped toy or $10 per person. Ride with care and look out for frustrated cagers and novice riders. Be safe out there!

Looks like Little Squeaker is on the money. Word so far is the traditional route leaving Inlet Square Mall and ending at McDonald's in Myrtle Beach Proper is the Horry County Abate Toy Run. There will be a party afterwords at the Steel Horse on 3rd ave. I guess how I feel is that something just doesn't feel right. An Horry County Abate Toy Run that starts outside the city but ends in the city in the year 2008. But maybe it's just me

But maybe it's just me I have been watching the back and forth on this and am going to weigh in with my two cents worth, although I don't have a dog in this particular hunt. I side with those who said there is no reason to change the route and suggesting to not politicize the toy run. As a practical matter, I think those who try and make a political statement in the midst of a very worthy charitable endeavor will get crucified in the press and public opinion. The reason for doing the toy run in the first place is to benefit needy kids, and that's it. I see nothing good coming from trying to piggy back a political fight on the event. Even countries at war with each other declare a truce on Christmas. So, I say forget the politics and just enjoy the comradeship of the ride and the spirit of giving to those less fortunate. There are plenty of other days to carry on the fight.

I'm of two minds with this Toy Run....
I think ABATE dropped the ball on this by having the run end in Myrtle Beach with the anti-rally sentiment so pervasive in this town. They should have quietly changed the route to a McDonald's elsewhere.
But, we have to show MB that we won't be run out of town by their discriminatory actions. I ride through MB and give their streets wear and tear whenever I have to; I just don't leave any money there!
BUT, a lot of the guys will spend money at McDonald's, even if for just a cup of coffee or a sandwich before going back to work.
And a lot of the guys are just uncomfortable going into town with their loud pipes and bare heads.
Patrick is right. It's ultimately for the kiddies. We'll just have to suck it up this year and hope ABATE looks at an alternative for next year.

Anyone participating in this toy run who needs a cup of coffee or food won't have to spend a dime. Seaside is located right here at the 27th ave south McDonalds drop off point. We'll supply the hot coffee and some snacks, if that will help The Bird feel more comfortable in MB.
Remember, this is the south end of MB, we all love bikers here!
Every year there are many children who come to McDonalds for this event. You all never see their faces when they begin to hear the roar of those bikes coming down Hwy 17. They are so excited! Couple that with the FACT that YOU are here FOR THEM, throw in a few biker nuts dressed like Santa and you have some of the MOST EXCITED kids you'll ever see.
The fact is, our leaders made a decision based on the viewpoint of a select few. Please don't make our needy children suffer for their actions. The media will be at this event, they always are there. They interview bikers, capture video of the toy trailer and are always impressed with the amount of toys collected on this day for the needy children.
Show everyone that the ride is for the kids. The media will surely be commenting on the issues, and the city leaders will be expecting the bikers to complain about the event being in MB Proper - don't give them what they want! Ride the toy run, help the kids, and remember - 27th south is only a "few" blocks inside the city limits!
I'm off to find a big coffee pot! ;D
