OK people, this is how I see it. If the business in MB want to see my $$ back again. this is what they need to do. #1 Drop out of the Chamber of comedy, (oops) commerse , sorry. #2 Renounce the Mayor, and his court jesters. (town clownsil) #3 Join either BOOST, or HELP. making a monitary donation to help their cause. then finally....... #4 Aquire a sticker from either BOOST, or HELP. and place it over their Chamber of Commerse door sticker , to show you are serious. It will be then , and ONLY then that I will spend a dime in 09. That will show us wheather they REALLY support bikers, or are another Wayne Grey , that hates bikers, but still posts "WELCOME BIKERS" on his sign only during bike week. That phoney bastard. (just my humble thoughts) ;D

Those are some very good guidelines, slvrshadow. That's when I'll spend my dime in Myrtle Beach.

BOOST has set up an alternate Chamber of Commerce complete with commercials and real help for businesses. Many are dropping of of MB Chamber and decided to go it alone. In a down economy these businesses are spending money that should be provided by the Chamber but isn't unless you tow the line. If they are in the City they have just had their butts handed to them as well. For me Not A Dime was a grass roots effort to provide a wake up call to MB businesses and to punish those in office. Like the folks in Temucula California found out we are a force to be reckoned with when you F with us in the way MB did. All we asked for was a seat at the table. The 24 million dollar question is this. Is it time to take a different approach ? The businesses need money to fight the Mayor and Council. I would like the ibiker crew to share their opinion. We are stronger together.

If we go back to spending inside the city limits, the mayor and council have won. It's harsh and I feel bad for the businesses but most all of them waited until the eleventh hour to get involved. We had said for a long time that we would not spend inside the city. They didn't listen or they thought word wouldn't get out of Horry county. Either way, they waited too long to get into the fight.
Like you always say, bird, there is strength in numbers. Had they all gotten together at the beginning and stood up to the mayor, there may have a different outcome. We will never know now. Most all the bikers stood up and made noise and went to many of the council meetings in the city and county. And bikers did not have a financial stake in it at all. The people that did have a financial stake in it were not to be found. They left us on our own. Now, they are on their own.

The people that did have a financial stake in it were not to be found. They left us on our own. Now, they are on their own. Hey geeze. On first impluse, I am tempted to say "AMEN!" And, I may end up at that place also. But for the moment, I am moderating that impulse, mostly in response to something the Bird said to me yesterday. He reminded me of something I said last fall when this was all spinning up. Back then, I commented in one of the blogs that nothing productive was going to happen unless the local businesses got spun up and motivated. In most small cities and towns, and most especially in tourist destinations, the Chamber is where the power is. Local politicians either ARE the chamber, or take their marching orders from them. Now we have the situation with BOOST and HELP where local businesses are getting into the game in significant numbers and even acting at variance to the Chamber forming a kind of government in exile. It is the result, in part, we hoped to see take place. Is it enough? Not yet. Are they late to the game? You bet. Will they be able to successfully counteract the Mayor and the Council? Too soon to tell. HOWEVER, at some point, those of us on the right side of the argument will have to make a determination that the time is right to re-engage in productive commerce. The goal was never to simply turn Myrtle Beach into a business graveyard and some sort of monument to political ineptitude, although the cynic might argue that this might have been, in part, the goal of some of themore powerful local business interests. After all, a down economy and a failing local business scene creates opportunities for someone with the resources to take advantage of it. But, returning to the original question, if we wish to have a seat at the table and a reasonable opportunity to see MB restored as a destination that can be enjoyed by all without discriminatory practices, then at some point we will need to decide to say "Yes" to the city again, otherwise those who are working towards the same goals we are will not be very motivated to work with us. Is now that time? I am frankly not sure. My initial instinct is "not yet." I told bro in response to his comment that there needs to be enough pain felt as a result of this that memories will be long and deep, and it will be a long time before another petty tyrant in the mould of Mayor Rhodes tries something like this again. The signs are encouraging, but the Mayor and the Council remain steadfast and defiant and as of right now, there is not even a declared candidate against him for the fall, let alone any indication that such a candidate could win and carry enough impact to undo some of the damaging attitudes and ordinances. As long as that remains the situation, I will probably personally remain in the "not yet" category. When you have your foot on the neck of a powerful opponent, you do not let off until they officially tap out, or you might find positions quickly reversed.

Thank you all for your posts and I hope many more will also give their opinion. This site belongs to the Members and unlike the Mayor when there is a controversial issue I ask for the opinions of the members. So far I am not feeling the love.

Pat. thats my whole point actually, is to get the MB business owners to rise up against the machine and show them that they don't need their chamber, and that the bikers ARE more important. this is just a way to draw a BOLD line in the sand , and see who will cross it . sending the city a message , not just from the motorcycle comunity... but the business comunity as well. How cool would it be to see the chamber reeling, financially because they wind up with too few number of members to be effective. We already know the chamber is a joke. This would encourage more business's to point their finger and laugh out loud at the joke too. and if they follow these guidlines... I think they will have spoken loud and clear. They may not have a vote... but they can do this...

Even after the new .01 tax was pushed down the throats of Myrtle Beach residents, they are still trying to sell it to the public. On page 4C of today's Scum News, there is a nearly half page ad explaining just how much better off the residents are that they will be paying this new tax. In three years, a "portion" of this tax will be applied to property tax. Anyone want to bet that before the three years are up, "something important" will come along and need the tax money? Also, notice that this ad was placed by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. Who ya think paid for it?

Hello everyone!!! I am a brand new to the forum and I would like to thank you for welcoming me to your group! My name is Tricia Cunningham and I am the Spokesperson/Board Member for the organization H.E.L.P. or Help Eliminate Lousy Politicians. I want you all to know we are their fighting for your rights, the city, businesses, and employees EVERYDAY. We currently have three missions to reach our goal of unseating the irresponsible and dictatorial current government in the city of Myrtle Beach. Our first mission is to register voters inside the city limits and for the county as well. The next mission is getting signatures on two separate petitions for single member districts which will allow for EQUAL representation for the city and to repeal the 1% Ad tax. Our third mission is a campaign we started after seeing the devastation to businesses & their employees left by the City's reprehensible actions called HELP is on the way: HELP Is On The Way HELP Is On The Way, is a program designed to aid Myrtle Beach businesses who have been affected by the recent tourist reduction. We understand the pressure the lack of revenue has placed on our service industry and local business owners. In order to HELP we will select three locations each week to patronize breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We will leave flyers and post the valuable information on our web site. We are asking our members and guests to join us there and HELP support our community. We will have voter registration forms available and encourage new members to join. I can tell you that business owners tried to stand up but like everyone else, they were told if they didn't like it move. Now that is what the city truly wants! They want the mom and pop businesses gone so they can build big hotels and drive everyone off. The current city government did not anticipate groups & movements such as BOOST, HELP, & Not A Dime In '09 having the impact that we have accomplished. We all have separate missions- BOOST is doing all they can to fight the helmet law and have invested almost $100,000 into their plight. HELP is a grassroots organization the media is eating up. They love what we are doing and following us around like a rat after cheese. And now I am happy that we are all on board together with the same goal- get rid of the lousy politicians and the current chamber (this is the new one I am involved with: www.myrtlebeachunited.com we are going to be fully operational this week), take our city back, say no to selective tourism, repeal the helmet law, repeal the taxes, and jump start our local economy again- together!!! Let's get together and make this happen. I love the new approach Not A Dime In '09 is taking to be proactive for the area businesses and we'll do everything to support your efforts as well. Our web site is www.helpformyrtlebeach.com and our events are listed on there as well. We have been so busy in the field that our site has been neglected but that is all changing this week so check back daily for news and events. My facebook page is Tricia Cunningham and you can keep up with us there as well. WE WILL BE AT THE TAKE BACK MAY EVENT THANKING MAYOR RHODES AND CITY COUNCIL ON WEDNESDAY JUNE 10th FROM 11:30 TO 2:00pm AT THE MYRTLE BEACH TRAIN DEPOT. HELP plans to show only presence and to answer questions when asked. They were already booed at the Sun Fun Festival yesterday- HEHEHEHEHE If you need a HELP Shirt call Trevor @ 843-446-9765 or come to the event early as we will have a booth before hand. Thanks everyone and have a blessed day!!! Helpfully yours, Tricia Cunningham coachtricia@gmail.com 843-424-2955
