There doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground possible concerning the raft of anti-biker ordinances passed by the city council. Where do you come down in all of this and do you have a dog in this hunt?

I am a citizen that lives outside the city of myrtle beach, but will not spend a dime in their town because of the harassment going on. I have seen what their method is and don't like it. The show this weekend just proved my point, because no time in the 20yrs i have lived here have i ever seen that many police officers at check points, and it is only going to get worse before it gets better. IT WILL CONTINUE until they drum all bikes out of the community. I have friends and relatives that ride and when given the opportunity i enjoy riding with them. CONTINUE to show myrtle beach, that millions of dollars in lost revenu will hurt.

I agree with you 100% Not one dime in 09. Hopefully you will find this site informative and helpfull. As I have previously stated I am a little slow with computers but as knowledge grows would like to correspond with all. Will try to keep everyone up to date on meetings so we can attend as this information or disinformation is slow in coming. Meeting in Horry County on October 14th at 5 pm. We need everyone there. Hope you can attend and tell all you know. This does not just affect bikers. It affects everyone so tell all. Blessings Freebird

I went on the site to check fines. I didn't see any given for noise. But I did see no licenses, no ins., dui, drugs, etc. can you tell me what the cops did to harrass the bikers. Yes I ride. I have not been harrassed by the police. I did get stopped by the same set up after a trip home from Myrtle with a dog and baby in the car on 279 in Pittsburgh that sucked, but I rather see bikers that respect the law and locals living there, then maybe I'll be safe on the road also.

SS, howdy and welcome aboard. This will be a bit off topic from the specific subject of the ordinances, but I personally believe that random roadblocks and checkpoints themselves are unconstitutional. The police and other civil authorities are generally supposed to have reasonable cause (and in some cases a warrant issued by a judge) before they can search your home, your vehicle, or your person. Random roadblocks seem to me to violate this presumption of innocence that is at the heart of our legal system, and it reminds me of the old style Soviet practice of challenging people to show their papers. If there were a true presumption of innocence, there would be no cause to pull anyone over "at random". Suppose instead of riding a bike there were people walking past the roadblock on the sidewalk. Would you be okay with the police demanding they show their id and submit to a search? What's the difference? By creating the "noise ordinance", the city council has created a convenient excuse for reasonable cause ("It sounded noisy to me") and once they have you stopped, then they can go after you for any sort of infraction they can find. Suppose they started applying this noise ordinance in neighborhoods they did not like, and if they hear a loud stereo playing out the window use that to enter your home and search for anything illegal they might be able to find. Would you call that a legal search regardless of what they find? It amazes me how quick people are to roll over and surrender their rights in this country. A lot of blood has been shed for them over the last 230+ years, and if nothing else, we owe it to those who died to protect them not to treat them so casually. But, maybe that's just me.

SS Freebird here. Welcome to the site. All let me repeat all are welcome. I am also of the presumption of innocence mindset. I have a different question tho? Will there be roadblocks when the golfers are here? If not why? I think living here all locals could answer that. All should obey the laws not just bikers. enforced equally. If you live in Pittsburg thank you for visiting the Grand Strand. Your patronage is appreciated by all.

Now that the Rally is over we can all enjoy the Br's as I call them. September through December. The visitors are gone, the weekenders are thinning out and the locals own the whole place. My taxes are reasonable and the visitors paid for all of this. The sky is blue, the beer cold, the tea is sweet and the women are hot. Whats not to like. One would think.
The Mayors actions will have long lasting effects throughout the whole Grand Strand and most likely the state. The Mayor states in his letter his desire to end the rally's yet no one at any time can accurately say how much money that will remove from an already failing economic climate here.I have not seen one ecnomic study to date from the City. Pavillion gone, Inlet Square Mall going under, Hard Rock Park gone,The Governor is looking for $250,000.00 and it wont come from Flotown, and so on. It would seem to me prudent to know how much we will loose and also to have a business plan as to how to replace it. Otherwise the ones you represent are again harmed. No dog in this part so Jimmy Crack Corn and I don't care. Someone down here said that to me and it just stuck.
I didn't ride in the City so I can't say much about Hotel cancellations but heard from others. What I can say is The Mayors House is Top Floor. Gulf Stream Cafe is not to shabby as well. The Omega Pancake & Omlet House in Surfside Beach is my favorite place to eat breakfast. The owner Nick is as good as it gets and we could use more like him. If you go tell him Freebird with the yellow bike said hi. Point is I spent my money down here in the southside my favorite. I am a faithfull customer and frequent the same businesses. They just happen now to be outside the City limits. Just food for thought

Hi Guys! As a local here in MB, I want to say THANK YOU to ALL who attended the fall rally. After weeks of NOTHING here in MB "Proper" it was SOOO nice to have visitors in the area. I have lived in this area all my life and have never seen anything like those road checks before. In fact, since 1992 I have only actually go thru one road check. The fact that there were two this weekend was totally uncalled for. As a local we know the reason these things are occurring. All I have to say for our City is that they had better conduct these same types of road checks for BBW! Since they CLAIM they treat all bike rallies the same. I don't own a bike, but after reading and seeing the crap that went on this weekend, I'm offended and ashamed to live here. I agree with not spending money in the city and will do my part to hold out on them. They'll raise our taxes again to cover the shortfall without even considering how the locals feel. I disagree with many of the ordinances. While helmets do have their safety elements, they also place limitations on the driver. It's hard to hear and you lose some range in your vision. Of course I fully understand hitting the pavement without a helmet could cause you to lose your life. WE GET IT anti-rally folks. It's for safety. What we don't get is who in their right mind would tell tourists not to come to a tourist area when those tourists spend millions of dollars here?? Please MBCC help me on this one. Our mayor has a lot of experience in making bad business decisions just look at his business record. Now he will do the same thing to MB. The spring rally has been going on for years, 68, I believe. It's part of who we are (MB). It's a tradition! What other group do they think will show up in early May? the families? nope, the kids are still in school; the college graduates? hell no, they can't rent a hotel room - gotta be 24 yrs old for that; Oh yeah, I forgot, we have AB Bike weekend - 3 days of a non stop street party and major traffic gridlock. But wait, they're bikers too, so MBCC doesn't want them either...but MBCC has no choice here cause the NAACP will make sure they get to do what they want, when they want or it's discrimination. Perhaps the Harley riders could find a national civil rights group to back them. Negative NATIONAL Press would be a major issue for this area, gees I hope that doesn't happen BTW, I remember seeing a guy on CSPAN a while back. He had this little group - N.O.F.E.A.R. (National Organization For European American Rights) perhaps they could come down and watch over both rallies in May. In the meantime, stack up the lawsuits and spend your money outside of MB. If you received a ticket or felt harassed by the improper noise checks, file a lawsuit, that's what the other group did and they put a few of my friends out of business because the average small business owner in MB can't afford to fight the NAACP. Our State has been trying to pass a helmet law for years, but they haven't. I don't believe MB has the right to do it either. However if they somehow pull this one off, we locals will rent you a helmet if you want to enter the city. Then we'll give ALL that money to the humane society, because our City Counsel doesn't like helping homeless animals either! Sorry to vent so much here! Please pray for the family of Mr. Clarence Thomas Potter (biker lost this weekend) and for all involved in the accident - they are all experiencing a lot of pain. Good night, God Bless, and keep the painted side up!

I remember reading the Humane Society article and thinking how sad that they would have to beg for money especially with the abundance in the Grand Strand.Your insite is refreshing so vent as much as you like.If you are interested in Public service the street chatter is that there will be openings on the City Council. And yes we should all pray for the accident victims Freebird

Freebird,
I agree the story of the shelter begging for money was bad, however I was actually refering to an older issue. Years ago when the humane society asked council for funding, a remark was made by a Councilman Gray - to save the city money, we should just tie a rope around their necks & throw them from the waterway bridge. Yeah! OOUCCH! He apologized, we forgave, but it's not forgotten. I figured the rental helmets would serve two causes. ;D

I looked into epa regs and their standard for motorcycles that i found is 99 db at 20 inches from muffler for vehicles in use and 82 db at 50 feet from center of lane traveling at posted speed limit. Didn't those clowns do any research or did they just make up a standard ?

Hard to tell what any in the City Council think. Maybe they do not think we have computers . Remember that DB's are measured exponentially so it is even worse then it appears. Working on a graph to show just how ridiculous and restrictive these ordinances are. ;D

Hi to all, I just joined and I live in Pa. Yeah, I know, a d**n yankee! But on my behalf, I was born BELOW the mason-dixon line. I just want to say thet we ride down every year for the spring rally. We have family in NMB and always have a great time. We are still planning to attend the spring rally next year and years there after. We will not spend a dime in the city of Myrtle Beach. We are telling our fellow riders, families, friends and coworkers the same. The anti-rally people always miss this one point: 300,000 bikers tell 600,00 family members, 600,000 family members tell another 1,200,000 friends, 1,200,000 friends tell 2.4,000,000 coworkers and so on. The boycott really begins to add up! These numbers are all very conservative too! Can the city of Myrtle Beach handle this kind of loss in their economy? Hell no!!!!! If the anti-rally people continue their rhetoric, the city of Myrtle Beach will become a gated community with no business, boarded up houses, and of course, quiet streets! HHHMMMM!!!!! Let's give them what they want. A quiet community. Continue the boycott. Tell your fellow bikers, families and friends to vacation outside of the city. Sorry, I got a little carried away.
Ride safe and keep the rubber side down 07 FLHTC rider Keith and Carol
