On Tuesday evening at the convention center , Mayor Rhoadent is going to give his state of the city address. I for one will be there, and think it would be appropriate, since one topic he speaks about is the biker issue, That when he looks out in the audience, he sees an ocean of leather , and patches . Lets keep him honest, (and maybe a little nervous).

The results were insulting Jeff. Out of the appx, 70 or so people there about 8 were bikers. Pathetic, I bet he WASN'T nersous. We didn't even have enough people to fill one table.

Shadow. Tonight was the Players Ball. All City Players were there and could see only 8 Bikers show up. More show up for a soccer game then when our rights are being challenged. Sad. But it was 8 great people.

... We didn't even have enough people to fill one table. Well, I did what I could to help fill one. Thank you all for allowing me to join you - and it was a REAL PLEASURE to be in all of your company.

I feel that we - the biker community - missed a golden opportunity last night.
There were PLENTY of empty seats, and even several entirely empty (banquet-style) tables.
After the mayor finished his segment about the bike rallies, there was a SPARSE amount of applause from some audience members. I quickly remarked to Silvershadow that it was probably 20% of the audience who seemed to show support and appreciation for that part of the mayor's speech.
Several of us were there plenty early enough that we could have had tables for attending bikers scattered all over the room - mixed in with all other attendees.
This would have provided us and others attending the speech an opportunity to interract with each other - and probably giving a real chance for many folks to actually talk directly to a biker and find out WHO we really are versus the false picture presented by various local officials.
MORE SIGNIFICANTLY - that arrangement would have made it near impossible for the key city officials to do their roving "meet and greet" politicking, which they did both before and after the speech, WITHOUT constantly coming into contact with attending bikers. In other words - they wouldn't have been able to avoid us.
As it was - not a single city official approached us, with the exception of MB City Public Information Officer Mark Kruea. He did approach me after almost everyone had left, and engaged in conversation that was the usual cordial discussion limited by his job's guidelines. I always get the impression that Mark isn't exactly "lock-step" with what the City of Myrtle Beach has done to us, is rather easy to read "between the lines" with some of his personal remarks, but is limited by his duties and handles himself by showing SINCERE respect and professionalism that no other city official will demonstrate.
In contrast, I spoke with quite a few folks attending prior to the speech. Some I knew as neighbors, friends of my wife or thru other community connections. Others were complete strangers who I introduced myself to and engaged in brief general chatter mostly geared toward the nice banquet-style setup and expectations of the evening. It was obvious that I was a biker; I rode to the meeting, was in leathers/vest, carrying my lid, etc - but specifically avoided mentioning anything biker related.
I really wish more bikers would have attended; all those empty seats could have been filled by some folks who could have made a significant and noteworthy presence.
And - you didn’t have to spend a dime for it.

Range You are absolutely correct. A golden opportunity was missed by the Bikers to interact and show people that we are just ordinary people the same as the others attending this function. We did however have an impact on the news.
