WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Carolina Beach won't be a North Carolina alternative to a biker festival in South Carolina.
The StarNews of Wilmington reported that a hotel representative withdrew a request that Carolina Beach Town Council endorse an invitation to bikers to visit them instead of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Danny Swinson says he withdrew the request after getting negative public reaction.
Councilman Lonnie Lashley says she wants to make sure local residents know the council was responsive to their concerns.
Swinson had suggested sending invitations to motorcycle clubs that represent charities, firefighters or police officers to visit Carolina Beach instead of Myrtle Beach.
Bikers have been upset with Myrtle Beach since the city decided to crack down on bikers who visit in May because of concerns about rowdy behavior.
