Any one know of any good day rides thru the SC country side. We are coming down for Spring Bike Week and looking for rides that get away for the crowds of other riders. We've been down toward Charleston and north toward Wilmington. I thought maybe the locals may know of other good trips. 12 years in a row and we are looking for something different. Thanks Woody

There are plenty of good places to ride around here.
Go up Hwy 9 or 701 to Loris and cross over into NC to Tabor City and on up to White Lake. You'll need your helmet for this ride.
Take Hwy 378 out of Conway, and you can go all the way to Coulmbia or cut up to Pamplico and Florence.
Take Hwy 501 to Hwy 38 to Bennettsville and catch Hwy 9 back to HB Spokes.
One of our favorite rides is to Wilmington then over to Ft. Fisher and catch the ferry to Southport and back over to Hwy 17. Ft. Fisher has an aquarium and a Civil War museum. Pretty neat place. It's not that long of a ride but the ferry trip is cool.
You can check some of these places that I have mentioned on a map and get an idea of how far you want to ride. We do a lot of riding when we go. These are pretty easy without a lot of road changes so anyone that isn't familiar with the area can find their way around.
There are other rides that we take up through Marion and Marlboro counties just to get out in the country see what is going on. Yeah, its' good to get out of town.

Hey Geezer, There was a place we rode to last year in South Carolina. It had a small, but interesting museum. The museum was about the tobacco industry in the state and surrounding states. Then there was this little restaurant in town. It was a buffet and it was out of this world! The chicken was phemoninal! That is one ride we are planning again for this year. I will try and get more facts on it. Mots of the roads were back roads. Nice and very scenic. Just another idea for a nice day trip.
Ride safe and keep the rubber side down see you at the "Horry County Spring Rally 09" 07 FLHTC rider Keith and Carol

Woody Welcome to ibiker. Maybe we can plan a couple of the rides if there is some interest. The ALR is planning a ride to Charleston but other then that my Bike Week is open. Geezer that ride to Ft Fisher and Southport sounds interesting and would love to do the ( Keith ) killer chicken thing as well. Hopefully we can hook up and have some fun away from the City. Who needs Myrtle Beach anyway. ;D

Also the Amphitheater in Marion had Leonard Skynard last year. I will see if I can find out if they are having concerts this year as well. Also Darlington races are I believe the same time. The Lady in Black has always been one of my favorites. This just might be the Best Bike Week ever.

Freebird, I think Outhouse got it. That sounds like Mullins. From Mullins, you can take Hwy 917 to Loris and Hwy 9 and back to HB Spokes and on into NMB.
Tell me more about this chicken place.

It was an old house used for the buffet. It was on a side street right down the block from the museum. All the food was fantastic! The chicken was southern fried and it was MAGIC! No other words for it.
From there, I think, we rode up to darlington and saw some craftsman trucks doing some testing. Another great experience. Nice roads all the way up and very peaceful ride.

I used to work in Marion and there were several good buffets there and in Mullins. One in Marion was Williamsons and the other was called the Dry Dock. The last time I was up there Williamsons was closed and up for sale. There also were three in Mullins I visited off and on, two of which were in old houses and the third was a buffet in a small building and it was run by a retired black U.S. Navy cook. Most all of the cooks in Marion and Mullins were black southern women who knew how to cook Soul Food. It was an old house used for the buffet. It was on a side street right down the block from the museum. All the food was fantastic! The chicken was southern fried and it was MAGIC! No other words for it. Geezer, we need get the 'Gang' together for a ride to Marion & Mullins on a Sunday before long. Sounds like a plan. That would be a good ride for the Gang. I like to go to Loris and take Hwy 917 over to Mullins. We took Frog & Penny that way last fall. Ate at O'Hara's in Mullins. Fantastic place to put on the feedbag.
