Before 09, I always stayed at Holiday Sands, Same type room 2 bdr oceanfront efficency Ran 156 per night plus tax during bike week and about 49 per night in off season . They always seemed very accomodating to bikers I used to get offers and info from them a couple of times per year and always something just before Christmas including a holiday recipe in the package. Haven't received anything since bike week 09 though . Things will have to change in the city before I will ever stay there again

This is exactly right and this is why all you hear Brad Dean talk about is the OCCUPANCY rate. So what? They could have 100% occupancy but losing money and Brad would say how great it is.

Back when we vacationed on the strand we would get several fliers around this time of year that, in addition to the hoopla, had calendars showing rates for various weeks.
It would be fun if someone had some of the old ones and if new ones are printed be able to compare the "PROSPERITY" that the present high authorities have brought to the area.
Don't forget, no matter how low they set the rates, an empty room is an empty room, and the non-occupants of an empty room don't spend anything anywhere else.

Brad hasn't talked about room rates in over a year. Also the a-tax hasn't been separated out from Horry County in over a year as well. Otherwise the true numbers of DEVASTATION would be obvious. I am hearing unemployment numbers of 26% and climbing and 50% off for business. International Pancake and Omelet House a MB icon just closed for good last week. This was the featured business in the Un News at Thanksgiving feeding the needy for free. And so it goes. I am holding out for another year and then might buy some really cheap MB real estate.

Rhodes just got re-elected give it till 2013 you will be able to buy land and buildings for pennies on the dollar.. A guy I work with owns a time share there in the city somewhere. He said he TRIPPLED his amount of time for less than 1/3 of what he originally paid 5 years ago buying out other owners..

Just did a quick internet check. Best available rate is about $400.00 cheaper than my last stay... That's gotta' hurt? I'm sure if I called and spoke to a Rep. I'd get a little better deal (as I did in the past) because I am a repeat?
