This will make 13 years in a row for us to be in NMB in May. Rally or not the mayor has not stopped our vacation, just some of the places we go. We found alot of new places to ride to last year. We even took someones suggestion and rode into NC to Ft Fisher then took the ferry back, that was different. So there are plenty of things to see and do and you just can't beat the weather and friendly SC people, thats why we are back every year.

There is a ton of things to do and see down there. In the town of Mullen ( spelling?), there is a bed and breakfast with a lunch buffet that is out of this world! We make it a yearly trip to there. Just plain and simply fantastic!!!!! No booze, but some of the best fried chicken I ever had!

There is a Aquarium there and some great Surf Fishing as well. Up the coast about 8 miles is Carolina Beach and there is another ferry that goes to Bald Head Island home of Old Baldy for the Lighthouse buffs. Bald Head Island has voted to keep 80% natural and allows no cars. You may walk to a lot or rent a golf cart. It is a little bit yuppie in my opinion and has such notables as Bill Cower living there. As you go into the Harbor his house is the yellow one on the left ( Beachfront ) 5th house up. Geezer recommended that ride. It is a nice day ride and a lot to see. It reminds me of the outter banks only smaller. The aquarium has the only albino alligators raised from eggs from a certain spot in LA. After the last hurricane none have been found. They have some very exotic stuff as well. All connecting Ferry's leave from southport altho you can go to Wilmington and go down to Ft Fisher from Carolina Beach. The Battleship is at Wilmington as well

There is a meeting tonight I was invited to attend with the NMB Chamber, The Conway Chamber, The MBACC, The Horry Council, The MB Mayor and City Council, and many State Representatives. There is to be a moderated question and answer forum. I cant imagine that there will not be some Bike Week questions altho the operative word is moderated. I will report my view of the meeting. Past that we will order up some good weather for Woody and others and as all know the Sky is blue, The Beer cold, and the Grand Strand is a great place to live and ride. Most are friendly down here and by now most should know where and what to avoid. As Stern says Every day is Saturday and every week is Bike Week. ;D ;D

The narrator was a hoot, to say the least. Bird, please keep us informed as to what the meeting is all about and how it turns out.

The irony I find is Phil Schoonover, the owner of the local Harley dealers, is not a biker and he has never liked the locals. All he cared about was the rallies to make his money and now that is mostly gone.
So lately he tries to make up for it by having "events" for locals and hardly anyone shows up.
I'm torn because I like the rallies but I always hated putting money into Phil's hands.

And yes, Mike Shank has always been about the almighty dollar and is very much a turncoat. He doesn't want to threaten his other events (sporting) that he has so he 100% buckled to the politicians.
Too bad we didn't have a REAL Harley dealership here, one that would fight, one that cared about bikers, one that was loyal to the locals.
A girl can dream though....

Those two are "old news".. The Rally's (I assume) will draw some crowds. Not like in the past but... Just my gut feeling, But maybe this situation will just weed out the ones who just came for the "show" if you get my meaning The ones who came for the true brotherhood of the gathering will be back Rally or not I have not been coming as long as some, however as of right now I plan on riding the Grand Strand at least part of the first full week in May. That has become my tradition and Rally or not I plan to come and ride and hopefully socialize with friends, both old and new

I never thought that one man could stop a motorcycle rally that has been going for 60 some years, but he did. Then I read how nobody likes this mayor and all the income that was lost due to his new rules against certain tourist, but the guy gets elected for a second term. Now it seem the he has intimidated the SC supreme court into dragging their feet when it comes to the decision on the helmet law. If the decision comes after May 2010 that would help kill what is left of the rally. This guy sure seems to have the power. No matter the out come, the wife and I will be back in May for some warm weather riding and beach. Sure do miss some of our favorite spots inside the city but it will be do it again in 2010. Order up some hot weather for May 7-16 so we can thaw out after another Michigan winter. Make the best out of it. Sorry to say but he got reelected because only about 40% of the registered voters bother to get off the couch. As far as intimidating the courts he didn't . They just waited until the bitter end to file the necessary paperwork with the courts. Hopefully the courts will set them straight like they did with the kangaroo court system they tried to set up for the tickets.
