Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the Horry County Council meeting last night. I haven't heard if they let anyone speak for or against the decision of the vendor permits. One comment that I had was, the council members that represent the City of Myrtle Beach and the City of Surfside Beach should abstain from voting. These two cities have already eliminated vendors so they shouldn't vote for areas that they do not represent. They will not have vendors no matter which way County Council decides.

Geezer According to County Council rules you can always speak at 2nd voting however the rules also state that the Council did not get it up on the site to satisfy Council Rules. Liz asked for a vote to suspend the rules for last night and the Council voted yes. The owner of Lakewood Campground spoke as did the owner of Doghouse North. 2 Spoke for the anti Rally crowd. No one was signed up to speak or had a clue that they could. The City Council is starting to bicker a lot. I hope they can provide leadership but there are some on the Council that are making it very difficult. At one point it was 6 to 6 and they couldn't get anything done. So they just voted for the original amendments as they were.

Does anybody know if we can get a list from Horry county council as to who last years vendors were? Maybe we could contact those vendors and get them on board. They might help in persuading the county council to re-think what some of the council wants to do. I don't know, just a thought.

I have emailed each member of County Council asking them to re-think the vendor issue. Some of my friends have done the same thing and they have started getting replies. I haven't gotten a reply as of yet, but I will post any replies here.

Classic Go to Horrycounty.org.This is the county website & what you want should be part of the public information act.You may have to put in a formal request or provide a signature by fax but this is part of public disclosure.

I read in the un-news that the county council is going to increase fees for certain permits. This may be a mute point coming from me, but you can count on other fees increasing from the county. The reason, as I see it, is this "recession" is hurting the counties. And I mean big time! I am guessing that they will start with raising these kind of fees, and if not enought funds come, well, get ready for higher taxes.
The only reason that I say this is the state that I live in, Pa, is getting ready to rasie the gas tax by $.10/gallon and raise the cigarette tax!
So, like I said, I think this is why they are raising the fees for permits. I wouldn't be amazed if they amend it to include non-profit groups next.
